"We the People"

by Steve Countryman
8/19/2011 / Christian Living

Notice how the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States starts "We the People" not we the government. It is the people and their God who made this country great. Their hard work ethics, their determination, their honesty, their faith in God and their willingness to include God in the formation of a republic that the world has never seen before. Their willingness to fight and defend the freedoms that they cherished for generations to come. One built on the freedoms of the individual. The government wasn't self-starting; it was framed and crafted using the Ten Commandments in its laws and in its courts. The use of prayer to open congress has been a longstanding tradition to this very day. Church was held on Sundays in government buildings and no one ever thought that it was wrong. Thomas Jefferson wrote about his concerns about a government establishment of a specific religion, which later got twisted into the total separation of church "in" state. It is not found in the Constitution. Ripping God out of the government was never a consideration by our forefathers. Their intent was to include God not to exclude Him.

Lately I have found it hard to pray for our government officials though they need it. How was the media able to brainwash so many Americans? Freedom of speech abused for the sake of political gain, power and corruption. How many people have forgotten what happened on 9-11-2001, the day when our country was attacked on our soil? The resulting war was filled with lots of firsts. The first modern war where the entire U.S. armed forces was made up of volunteers. The first modern war that had the least casualties of any U.S. war fought going back to the 8000 who died in the Revolutionary war. The first modern war where military men and women re-enlisted to go back and fight some more including amputee soldiers! I can't begin to tell you how much respect and gratitude I have for our armed forces that have showed their courage, valor and dedication to duty and our country. Will all of that be forgotten? Will God be forgotten too?

We the people made a choice on Election Day on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. We the people wanted a "king". Someone who will tell us what we want to hear because the truth is too harsh. When people stumble and fall in the dark with every step they take, they become desperate. Their moral compass is broken and their common sense has disappeared, they are lost. That is when they will grab at anything and everything for a savior, even a false one. Desperate for wisdom and leadership but looking to man instead of looking to God will always lead to disappointment regardless of which political party they belong to. Look at modern man's selfish accomplishments financial failure, moral bankruptcy, corruption, power and greed at any cost. Life then becomes worthless. Existence without a purpose is a lifetime full of regret and disappointment.

Hosea 11:1-10 1 "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. 2 But the more I called Israel, the further they went from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images. 3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms; but they did not realize it was I who healed them. 4 I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them. 5 "Will they not return to Egypt and will not Assyria rule over them because they refuse to repent? 6 Swords will flash in their cities, will destroy the bars of their gates and put an end to their plans. 7 My people are determined to turn from me. Even if they call to the Most High, he will by no means exalt them. 8 "How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is changed within me; all my compassion is aroused. 9 I will not carry out my fierce anger, nor will I turn and devastate Ephraim. For I am God, and not man the Holy One among you. I will not come in wrath. 10 They will follow the LORD; he will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west. 11 They will come trembling like birds from Egypt, like doves from Assyria. I will settle them in their homes," declares the LORD. We have missed the wake-up call; it is time for revival! Only God knows when the hearts of this nation will be receptive enough for such a powerful movement of His Holy Spirit. I can't help but feel that with the "changes" that we are in for, the reality of revival will be upon us quickly. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. God has plans to prosper you, not the government! Politicians will promise you the moon for your vote but your hope and future rests in God's hands. Psalm 118:8-9 8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. 9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. Will you trust Him? Will you have faith in Him? Your heavenly Father awaits your decision. Are you ready?!?
