Neglecting God

by Steve Countryman
8/20/2011 / Christian Living

The Holy Spirit has shown me some of my shortcomings and how we Christians neglect God. My business is very special in that God is the reason why I'm here doing computer repair. To give you the shortened version back in 1999, after I was let go from my job as a grocery store manager, I wasn't having any luck landing a new job. Out of the blue my oldest nephew Randy Black called my wife Gina early one morning to say that God woke him up about 5a.m. and told him that he was to start a new computer repair business with me up in the White Mountains. From the time we opened the doors God has poured out His blessings on this business and us. It has taken me a while to realize that this is my ministry. I am so blessed in different ways by the business daily. My shop is busy and most of the time the phone will all but ring off the hook. I started to complain to others around me about the numerous calls that we are getting and how hard it is to get anything done while answering the phone too. That is when the Holy Spirit pointed out to me my complaining by asking me "what if I had no phone calls at all and what affect would that have on my business?" Boy, talking about getting hit upside the head! I started right then to repent for complaining and murmuring about His awesome blessings in my life and praise Him for them instead. I told the others in my shop what God had told me and I apologized for my murmuring and behavior around them. Complaining will keep you from praising and blessing God for His goodness and blessings in your life!

How often do we pray for God to bless us and when He does we complain about the blessings. A blessing is a gift from God. How you treat God's blessings when you receive them is important too. Do you complain about your blessing because your blessing didn't come the way you expected it to? Do you complain if your blessing doesn't show up on your time schedule? We serve a unique God. Everything He does He does in unique ways. Often times His blessing will be a blessing to more than one person. If you stop and think about it, you will notice that God is a maestro at orchestrating all of the blessings that He pours out everyday! Neglecting God by complaining of His blessings in your life.

There are so many ways that we neglect God and some times to the point of insulting Him. Some Christians believe that God created the universe and that evolution took over from there are neglecting and insulting the creator of all things, Jehovah God. Nature lovers who worship creation but not the creator. Those Christians who pick and choose which parts of the Bible they believe in neglect God and His Word. The Christians who think that the Bible is outdated and out of touch with the modern world. They think that miracles, signs and wonders died off with the apostles. Neglecting God and His Word.

I am amazed how often people will blame God for their problems and troubles and ignore Him for all of the blessings in their lives! "All good and perfect things come from God." The worldly view of things is to blame others and not yourself. Always looking for the negative in all things and in everyone, "faultfinders". Faultfinders are always trying to justify their decisions and lifestyles by making themselves feel better at the expense of others faults. Faultfinders are professional complainers. They are so busy finding fault that they never take responsibility for their own mistakes. The world is a negative place, don't let yourself get caught up in the faultfinders games. Faultfinders neglect God by depriving Him of the glory He richly deserves for all of the good things that He does in our lives. Ignoring God is neglecting God.

Living in the natural you are constantly bombarded with the way the world tells you to handle your problems. Like watching "reality" TV shows. You learn how important it is to get ahead and to win by stepping on peoples backs and how to use and abuse others. When you take worldly advice from TV and non-Christians you are neglecting God and His Word. It is a display of your lack of faith and trust in your God.

I have heard through the years how some business people have joined a church or religion to help create some new business contacts and boost their business. Treating church as a business opportunity instead of treating church like God's house of prayer. Being a Christian businessman I can honestly say that I enjoy having my Christian church body members coming to me for their computer problems. But there is a time and a place for everything and soliciting business during church service is not acceptable! I have been approached in the past from church members during worship service trying to sell me or sign me up for their services or products. Comings together to offer corporate praise and worship to God in spirit and in truth not to buy and sell. Matthew 21:12-13 12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a 'den of thieves.'" I consider worship time an intimate time with the Holy Spirit. When you give your attention to other things during church service you neglect God and you neglect giving God that which He rightfully deserves as your God that being your praise, worship and attention!

Neglecting God's Word, His commands, God's ways, His prompting, God's blessings, His daily provisions, God's spiritual gifts, His wisdom knowledge and understanding along with flat ignoring God voice then wondering where is God? It is sad that for many of us finding time for God in our busy daily lives is so hard to do when we owe our very existence to Him. Amazing how we will find time for something that is important to us but finding time for the creator of the universe seems difficult at best. God is not to be neglected or pushed off for one day of acknowledgement a week at church. God wants to be involved in our daily lives and decisions. Being a Christian is to be Christ-like so why not make God part of your daily life? A daily walk with God instead of a once in awhile thought of God. Are you ready?!?
