God's Phone Number

Mini-Sermon by Leonard Granger

When we are in an accident that causes major injury or are extremely sick we call 911 to bring a prompt ambulance response to answer our Physical Needs. This is a pretty well developed network of assistance that man has established for the benefit of us all.

When our home is on fire we call 911 to bring the fire department vehicles to our location in a matter of minutes. The firemen pride themselves in a quick response and our insurance rates are based on the response time. This phone number 911, is a man made call network that helps meet our Material Needs.

When we have Spiritual Needs we can make a phone call to our Pastor, Priest, or Rabbi and speak to God's Servant. This call to a man of God most often provides answers we are looking for to relieve our worry and concern in our time of trial.

However, the Bible gives us a phone number directly to God. It is Jeremiah 33:3, yes Jeremiah 333 tells us God will react to our calls. As the Lord says: "Call until me and I will answer thee, can shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not"

Let us meditate and analysis why God is telling the well know Prophet Jeremiah to call him in his time of need? God is not pleased with the conduct of Israel , with the people offering incense on the roofs of their houses to Baal and pouring out drink offerings until other Gods, and God is provoked to anger. He says in Chapter 32:26, "Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying: in the next verses that he going to turn this city into the hands of the Chaldeans and the hand of Nebuchadreszar, King of Babylon.

We see where the Prophet Jeremiah is in prison and it tells us in Chapter 33, the so called book of consolidation , that there is hope beyond the national disaster that has befallen the nation of Israel, and destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians. Jeremiah has been placed under palace court arrest because his enemies do not like his preaching for the return of Jerusalem and all of Israel to the Jewish people.

While Jeremiah is still in prison for the second time the Lord speaks and says in Jeremiah Chapter 33 Verse 3: " Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not".

The Lord says he will restore Israel, and bring them joy, praise and honor among all the nations of the world, and the other nations shall fear and tremble when they hear of all the goodness and prosperity I have done for my people. Today this small country Israel stands against its neighbors as a beacon of hope and faith in God. Countries that have supported them continued to be blessed by the Lord.

Yes, Jeremiah 33:3 is Gods Phone Number--- We have a direct line to the Lord. It is not just for emergencies but should be an everyday call. The line is always open, we will never get a busy signal, and we don't have to even pay a dime, as it is a local call.

I might close by saying:

I want to thank you Lord for listening to my troubles and sorrow,

Good night Lord Jesus, I love you and will call again tomorrow.
