Are Your Gremlins Back to Haunt Your?

by Janice S Ramkissoon

Do you struggle with recurring sins - constantly being tempted by the things of this world? Do you want to keep on the right path but can't seem to stop messing up? Don't give up! Help is at hand.
-------------------------------------------------

CASE STUDY:

[Sean walks into the corner shop. He noticed there wasn't much activity and the teller was not at the till. "No-one will see you" said the voice. "furthermore, it's only 1.00 no-one will notice, they won't even miss it." "No, I shouldn't" he thought to himself but he was hungry and his mouth was watering now. The urge intensified. "Well, no one's looking and it's not that much a loss, maybe just this once." He looked at the till, still no one's there. A few other people were in the shop but no one had noticed him, so he grabbed the bar of chocolate and ran. What Sean didn't realise is that a CCTV was onsite]

GROW IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

Peter felt it necessary to keep reminding us to grow in the knowledge of God, possibly because he knew we would easily forget. To grow in the knowledge of God equips us with the weapons we need to run from temptation. As we know Jesus better, His divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life*.

We are his children, no matter what background we are coming from and He promised that 'you will escape the decadence of all around you caused by evil desires and that you will share in His divine nature'. This should give you comfort in knowing that you are not alone through your struggles and that it is possible to overcome temptation, for we walk by example of Christ who understands the difficulties in resisting temptation.

He understands your struggles and invites you to run to Him and away from temptation. He can help you through your time of difficulties because He was also tempted. However, though he was tempted he did not give himself over to the temptation, therefore you can overcome -- it is possible.

TAKE HEED

He sends his messengers to remind us of the evils of this world and how not to be caught up in it. This is where we need to take heed "for God did not spare even the angels when they sinned; He threw them into hell, in gloomy caves and darkness until the judgement. And God did not spare the ancient world except for Noah and his family of seven. Noah warned the world of God's righteous judgement. Then God destroyed the whole world of ungodly people with a vast flood. Later, He turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into heaps of ashes and swept them off the face of the earth. He made them an example of what will happen to ungodly people" (2nd Peter 2-6).

Like our fictional character, there are many needing to heed Peter's advice. Unlike in the case study, a CCTV may not be at home to highlight your act of abuse; at work to highlight the number of time stationery goes missing; the money being laundered or the homosexual activities taking place. How about robbing your family of time belonging to them - claiming to be at a business meeting when in fact you are devoting that time to someone who is encouraging you to be unfaithful to your wife or husband?

Be reminded that activities done in the dark will eventually come to light. You cannot continue to live a double life if you want to see the Saviour face to face. So if you find yourself messing up, then it's time to submit to God and resist the devil. Let there be tears for the wrong things you have done When you bow down before the Lord and admit your dependency on Him, He will lift you up and give you honour*. Grow in the knowledge of God as Peter advises, and He will find away of escape for every temptation*.

So apply to your daily walk, the instructions of Jesus to his disciples. "Keep alert and pray. Otherwise temptation will overpower you. For though the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak!"*

HELP IS AT HAND

God wants to help you overcome, so that you can start enjoying the blessings He has in-store for you. It's time to return to the abundance of love that awaits you.
