Core Truths

by Steve Countryman
10/24/2011 / Christian Living

There are some core truths that all of us Christians tend to ignore or are not aware of. Too often the truths we know we forget or take them for granted. Sad that over time most of God's truths have been compromised away or dismissed as "not for today". God's truths are eternal truths that never change, unlike facts that are always subject to change. Getting reacquainted with them again is important to your daily walk and relationship with the Lord. To be a fruitful Christian and an effective witness for His kingdom is what we will be held accountable for.

Genesis 1:26-27 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. The best starting point is a basic truth that we are all part of God's creation. That we are here on earth for His pleasure only. That we were created to please God. That makes us God pleasers not man pleasers. That we are here for God and not god here for us, others here for us or us here for us. That we are made in God's image and not god made in our image. When any of these truths are ignored or forgotten then deception and compromise is allowed to take over our thoughts.

The Trinity is God the Father, God the Son Jesus and God the Holy Spirit. They are all God not just part of God or a committee of God. "Let US make man in our image". John 1:1-2 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. Genesis 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal" It is not that you have to fully understand it as much as you have to have faith in it as one of God's truths.

Matthew 6:14-15 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Un-forgiveness can keep you from entering heaven. You expect God to forgive you your sins because He said He would by His salvation plan. But you in turn must also forgive and release those who have wronged/sinned against you. If not you elevate yourself above God because you feel those who abused you are not worthy of your forgiveness. Let the Holy Spirit guide you through the forgiveness and release process when you feel it is beyond your ability to do so. It is not worth carrying around all of that baggage of hatred and bitterness. It will hurt you and those around you more than it will hurt the person who offended you.

Jesus is the only way to the Father and heaven. Salvation comes through Jesus only! You can't earn it, you can't buy it, you can't bargain for it and you can't trade for it. It is a gift from God whose name is Jesus Christ. Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism worship different gods but not God Jehovah, they are not one and the same god. Not all roads/ways point to God, regardless what Oprah says, Jesus is the only way!

Blending Bible truths with worldly concepts is wrong. Evolution is the opposite of creation. Abortion and all forms of fornication are not accepted Christian practices or principles. You can't blend God's truths with worldly beliefs or sins and still be a Christian. Likewise compromising God's Word dilutes God's truth. When you compromise away God's truth you weaken, distort, pollute, adulterate and lessen its value and make it worthless and powerless. Doing so is sin in God's eyes. God's truth is black and white and where no gray is found. The opposite of God's truth is lies and lies come by distraction of thought and lack of focus.

Declaring out loud God's Word, God's will, God's promises, God's love, God's grace, God's mercy, God's forgiveness, your prayers, your heart's desires, your love for the Father and your devotion and commitment to God. Declaring out loud who you are in Christ and who Christ is in you. There is power in the SPOKEN word. There is power in the tongue, power of life and death. The power of speaking blessings or curses. There is agreement, alignment, unity and faith in the spoken word. That is why Paul said in 1Corinthians 14:5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. To prophesy is to speak out loud "those things that are not as if they were".

We are not containers of God's glory but spillers of it. We were made to channel His power, will, authority, glory and love. Just as a stream feeds a lake which brings life to it then when it is full spills over and feeds down stream, so we as God's children are to spill into the world. A lake without a stream to feed it will become a stagnant and lifeless pond just as some stagnant Christians are.

At the time of salvation Jesus is planted in us as God's seed in fertile soil. Where it is watered by our faith and fed by the Word through the Holy Spirit to grow to maturity. When God looks upon us He sees us through the spilt blood of Jesus that covers all of our sin. God's then sees His Son Jesus who lives and dwells in His temple, our bodies, and sees what we are capable of through Jesus in us. Jesus in us is our greatest potential. Making us more than we could ever be on our own. Jesus can do all things through us His temple.

God's emotions are so much more intense and powerful than ours. If the universe represents how big God's love is then the earth represents the percentage of that love we possess in the natural. As His children we have access to His great and abundant love through Jesus in us. We have less than one percent of God's emotions and intensity. Having loved you feel heartache from time to time in your life. But try to imagine how tremendous and intense God's heartache is for mankind who rejects His love. Then you can better understand why God sent His Son Jesus, who He dearly loves, to die for our sins.

We are not spectators of Christianity but practitioners of it. You can't be a spectator if you are a real Christian. Putting your "time in" on Sundays as an experienced pew sitter will not earn you any brownie points in heaven and doesn't make you a Christian anymore than sitting in a garage makes you car! Just because you believe that God exists doesn't make you a Christian. Even demons believe God exists and they sure aren't Christians. We are called to be His witnesses of His glory, power, authority, miracles, signs, wonders, love, mercy and grace and that comes by participation and practice. Your ministry is wherever you are at the moment. You have influence on your surroundings EVERYWHERE you go because Jesus lives in you!

Reverential fear of the Lord is where wisdom is found for only a fool doesn't fear God or believes that God doesn't exist. Faith in the Almighty is key for we are called to be believers. Faith comes by hearing and doing His Word. Faiths brings obedience. Obedience brings blessings from God. These three things are vital for your daily walk with the Lord.

Knowing these truths listed here, what gives us the right to limit God in us and through us? Why do we hold back from submitting ALL things to God daily? Why don't we give God thanks in ALL things? Why don't we praise God in ALL things? God is deserving of ALL our thanks, praises and worship every day. In good times and bad times, in troubling times and prosperous times, in tribulations and in times of celebration give God the praise, thanks, worship and glory for being your God. If we will remove the limits and conditions that we place on God then we can live the abundant life that Jesus came to provide for us. We can live a life of freedom from sin and bitterness, freedom from strife and conflict, freedom from sickness and disease. God gives us the Holy Spirit, who asks for Him, without limit. Why do we try to limit the moving and workings of the Holy Spirit in us and through us? It is time to hold fast to God's truths. It is time to grow up in the Lord as mature Christians that we are supposed to be. It is time to remove the limits and conditions from the Holy Spirit. It its time to stand for God's kingdom, His ways, His righteousness and His truths. It is time to stand!
