What Would I Do?
by Verna Cole Mitchell
4/04/2007 / Poetry

What Would I Do?

How would I get along, Lord, if I did not know You?
I have no other friend who's just as true.

How would I know my sins are gone that I might blameless be
If You had not paid the price to set me free?

How would I plan to follow You in only righteous ways
If Your Word were not my guide for all my days?

How would I face temptation and of evil have no part
If You had not put a watch upon my heart?

How would I find the words to use when I kneel down to pray
If You had not clearly taught me what to say?

How would I stand up straight and strong amid life's cruel stings
If You did not keep me safe beneath your wings?

How would I be Your witness bold for other folks to see
If Your Spirit were not there to strengthen me?

How would I keep on hoping when around me all is strife
If You had not promised me eternal life?

How would I get along, Lord, if I did not know You?
I have no other friend who's just as true.

Verna Cole Mitchell is a wife, mother, grandmother, and retired teacher, who is so grateful to God for all his blessings. Her desire is to honor God with her life and with her words.
