Self Forgiveness-Necessary Step For a Prosperous New Year

by Ngozi Nwoke
1/04/2012 / Self Help

I messed up and contributed to my problems. It was all my fault, things would have been better by now. I failed last year, how can I forgive myself. You must have heard or said such lamenting words before. Self forgiveness is a necessary step to take if you are to enjoy New Year.

Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God - 1 John 3:21.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness - 1 John 1:9

Anyone driving and looking back is heading for a crash. And anyone who pins someone down on the floor is going nowhere. It is good to look back and learn from the past but not to dwell on it. When you don't forgive yourself of past mistakes you will hinder your progress. Self forgiveness is vital for you to succeed this year. Don't hold yourself down this year if you are to enjoy New Year.

Ask God to forgive you of your wrong steps. He will forgive and forget them. He will not hold you back on repented sins. He will not stop your progress because of sins already forgiven. He sees you as having done nothing when you sincerely ask for forgiveness and forsake the sin. See yourself as God sees you - the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

You need to love who you are and make the most of you. Exercise your strong points and develop your weak points. Don't allow your errors to break you, instead let them make you. Develop a right attitude towards you to enjoy a prosperous new year.

Amend whatever error you can and leave those you can't do anything about in the past. Plead the blood of Jesus and for God's mercy and move on. You must realise that as a human being, you are liable to errors. It is what you do afterwards that counts. If you never made mistakes then you never took responsibility for anything, which is worse.

Am I making light of wrongs done? No, not at all. But then, what has happened has happened. There is no need crying over spilled milk. Self forgiveness is a necessary step for you to make progress this year. And God certainly wants you to make progress. He has made your path to shine brighter and brighter. But He needs your co-operation.

You may say, "you don't know the things I did'. It doesn't matter what you did. God will forgive you and forget them. The question is "have you forgiven yourself?" Sit down, acknowledge and take responsibility of your mistakes, and forgive yourself. Analyse and learn from it. Seek for ways to avoid recurrence of the mistakes. Apply them and THEN MOVE ON.

There are mountains to be subdued, victories to be won, people to be loved, success paths to be created this year. They are waiting for you. Are you set? You can make it. I wish you God's grace and a Prosperous New Year.
