The Clubhouse

by

After my wife, Cindy insisted on moving the T.V. across the room. We couldn't figure out how to hook our numerous electronic devices back up. I called a friend that has an installation business, to come and save our marriage. After he had done that, I asked him how much it would be to install our new dishwasher, another marriage friendly device.

We went outside to get the dishwasher out of the truck, when Cindy came running out of the house screaming, that there was smoke billowing from behind the boys clubhouse. I went running down there looking for the boys, when I saw Josh beating the ground, trying to put out the flames. His little brother Christopher, was standing there seemingly in shock. I quickly stomped the fire out, and told them to get in the house. Josh then looked under the clubhouse, and started crying harder. I looked underneath and it was still burning.

My friend came running down the hill with a fire extinguisher in hand, and put the rest of the fire out. My first thought was to beat the daylights out of them, but God held me back. After we made sure all was well, we went back into the house. I was so mad all I could think about was disciplining him, but God convinced me that nobody got hurt, and nothing was destroyed, and that I should let it go. I told Josh to jump in the shower, and get his pajama's on and go to his room.

God placed these things on my heart. If my friend John, hadn't been over an hour late getting there, we wouldn't have had a fire extinguisher outside when we needed it. (it was in his van ) My sons shoes had caught on fire, but somehow he got them out. ( I later found out his snowsuit had been saturated with gas also, but God had His hand on my boys and kept them from harms way.

The whole situation was a lesson for us all. God is always there for us, and always in control. I realize this kind of ending, doesn't always turn out like this, but I give praise to the Lord, that He spared us from what could have happened. I wrote this poem to my son, later that night.

TO JOSH

A spark, a flame no self control
Disaster loomed so near
A little brother standing there
Frozen stiff with fear

Frantically you stomped the ground
To stop the flames advance
You were not thinking clearly
You left too much to chance

I praise God, He was with you
And kept you both from harm
Your mother saw the smoke billow
And sounded the alarm

I ran down to the clubhouse
Afraid of what I'd find
But God held you both in His hands
He alone saved your behind

I pray the problems that you face
The Lord will help you through
Jesus has the answers, son
And He's always there for you

John has been writing inspirational stories, and poetry for the Lord for over 9 years. He retired last July to persue his writing career. He just prays people find comfort in his work.
