As soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded him to say, the priests, prophets and all the other people seized him and said "you must die"-Jeremiah 26:8 Niv
Isn't it funny how being obedient can bring confusing results? How so? Sometimes when we're given certain instructions and are asked to pass them along to someone else; those same instructions can became a throne in our side because they're not well received. A perfect example of this is handing down some work related directives to a co-worker then receiving a strange look after wards as if you'd called them fat or ugly.
In Jeremiah 26:2-6 we see that God directed Jeremiah, the prophet to give certain directions to the people who had come to worship in Judah . After Jeremiah had finished acting as a divine vaticinator the religious leaders along with the ordinary citizens wanted to put an end to that malarkey (foolish talk) by ending Jeremiah's life. Jeremiah must have been asking (out loud and in his head) ARE THEY SERIOUS. Since Jeremiah was prompted to ask that question I'm absolutely positive that he was in disarray and more than likely complete disbelief. Thankfully Jeremiah wasn't too bothered by the threat of death and continued on with his mission to incite change within Judah (vv. 12&13). Oddly enough this is the same type of response that God wants all of His children to display.
Edification is like a wardrobe mishap........sometimes well received and sometimes not so much!
