A traveling church
by Shandha Woodard
3/03/2012 / Devotionals

Then they brought the tabernacle (the tent used by the Israelites for meeting with God) and all its furnishings to Moses-Exodus 39:33 NVI

Did you know that the first church mentioned in the Bible wasn't intended to be stationary as churches are today? In fact it was specifically designed for travel. We know this to be true because the blue print (designed and given by God Himself) included holes for the insertion of poles for carrying.

When I hear the word travel I certainly don't think of the word church. The most logical explanation for that would probably be that the word travel usually means assembling to another location and the word church normally doesn't. Funny that I should think of it that way because Matthew 5:16 tells us just the opposite of that by saying let your light shine before others.

Now I know you're asking what does that verse have to do with traveling. Glad that you asked and I'll be happy to break it down for you. Let your light shine before others basically means that our travels (whether down the road to the grocery store or across the Pacific to another continent) are supposed to be visual testaments of the light (whom is none other than Christ) to others that we encounter. Jesus confirmed this in Matthew 5:14 by saying you are the light of the world.

If you never travel aboard a day in your life you're still expected to be a traveling church.
