The Way of the Cross
by Jenna Fernandez
4/13/2012 / Poetry

The way of the cross was a pathway of shame
Which sinners would travel with guilt to their name
The way was of suffering, the way was of pain
And those who would travel were never to come back again

But there was a man with no sin to His name
And He walked the pathway of our guilt and shame
His way was of suffering, His way was of pain
And those who condemned Him thought never to see Him again

He traveled a road that none would desire
And He died a death which none would admire
All so that we would not have to go
On the pathway of shame-- on that deadly road

He endured suffering, He endured pain
All to remove the guilt from our name
Placed in a tomb
In a cold, empty grave

But those who thought never to see Him again?
They were met with the news that He rose from the dead

Three days in the grave death could not hold Him down
With power to save, and grace that abounds
He came up from the tomb, traded grave clothes for glory
This is our hope, this is the story

Of how we can be saved by the truth, life and way
Of how all our sins can be washed away
Of how God alone has the power to save
The power to rescue our lives from the grave

The way of the cross is the way of salvation
The way of the cross is the hope of all nations
The way of the cross is the way to be free
Come to the cross-- come be made clean

Come and find peace and life everlasting
Come and find joy,
Ever surpassing our deepest desires is the hope that He gives
He is our Redeemer
Our Savior

He lives.
