Christian Relationship Help: Evaluate the Fruit of Your Relationship Choices

Are you looking for Christian relationship help? Relationships are complicated and it isn't always easy to know what to do, especially when it involves dysfunctional and complicated dynamics. It is helpful to apply biblical principles to guide you in making decisions about what to do. One of those is to evaluate whether your relationship produces the fruit of the Spirit or the fruit of the flesh.

When weighing your options in relationship choices, consider the outcome of your choice. Galatians 5:19-23 describes the acts of the sinful nature as sexual immorality, idolatry, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies and everything like those things. The acts of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

The choices you make in relationships have consequences. They influence the other person because he/she reacts to what you do. They result in more or less dysfunction and dissension in your relationship and family. They can bring healing or hurt. They can breed sin or righteousness. To help make decisions, answer these questions:

Are your actions bringing out the best or worst in the other person, you, your home, and the relationship?
Are your actions enabling or allowing sin?
Are your actions making a stand for righteousness?
Are your actions bringing more dysfunction or healthy interactions?
Are your actions glorifying to God?

It will be obvious to you what action you should take when you answer these questions that enable you to evaluate the fruit of your relationship choices.
