LEN'S LINES ---A Little Religion With A Positive Note By Len Granger

Evil For Evil

As we attend church over our lifetime, there are some sermons that the Lord sends us that really get our attention. Often we can relate our own personal experiences to the message and see where we may have been guilty of not doing the Christian way as the Bible tells us.

We see in Romans Chapter 12, Verse 17, " Recompense to no man evil for evil, Provide things honest in the sight of all men."

I am sure we all can recall a time when we said, "I will get even for that unjust thing which was done to me". Do we get even, which we think at the time will make us feel better, or do we turn the other cheek as the Bible tells us?

We are told in Verse 18 and 19, " It be possible, as much as lieth in you , live peaceably with all men, Dearly beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, "Vengeance is mine. I will repay," saith the Lord."

I remember a time when I was really upset. I operated a Texaco Service Station and Ryder Truck Rental in Marysville, CA and while gasoline then was only 25 cents a gallon, it really bothered me that thieves were stealing gas from the rental trucks. So one night I parked a block away and waited to see who was taking the gasoline. When a car drove into the lot and gas was being taken from a large tank the trucks had, I called the police and they responded. The thief was caught red handed and I told the officer if he wants the gas so bad I will dump it in the backseat of his car. I was quickly informed I would be arrested for destroying property, so calmed down and asked if I could speak with the man detained in the police car?

He told me that earlier that day he had been released from California Medical Facility, a state prison in Vacaville, CA about 60 miles away and was on the way to his sisters in Reno, Nevada. She had obtained a car for him but it had little gas to make the trip and saw the Ryder Trucks as a source. I told the police officer, I wanted to put the 5 gallons of gas in his fuel tank and send him on his way. The officer said you are not going to file charges? I said no he needs a friend right now, and just maybe he will change his lifestyle, so send him to his sister in Reno. For a little over a dollar, I became a friend in his time of need., and also had a good feeling as he drove away.

Our Lord tells us in Verse20, "Therefore: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will bring coals of fire on his head." And Verse 21, " Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Trust this Sunday we will all be in the church of our choice singing and worshiping our loving Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. God Bless America
