More Than Just a Picture
by Rick King

Recently I had an observation I want to share. The one who owns the house where I am living acquired a picture. This picture was supposed to be of Jesus. First of all I question all pictures supposedly of Jesus as they are never the same. They are representative of what people may think that He looks like.

The person gets all excited about having the picture. Yet I am not moved at all by it. I have Jesus in my heart and don't need a picture to remind me of Him or to get me thinking about Him. I do this all the time. I have an intimate relationship with Him and I find that a picture is just an outward thing whereas what I have is inward. I got to thinking that some time ago there was a meeting of people in this house. It was called a Bible Study. The Holy Spirit had endeavored to do many things. People would pray and ask Jesus to come and run the meeting. The words were great but the results were not as good. I had a vision one time in the meeting. I saw Jesus sitting in a chair with his hands raised. He is a gentleman and does ask permission. He was saying that you asked me to come so can I say something? The people just went on with the meeting and never let Him be in charge. They just did what they wanted to do. I saw it to just become a religious gathering that lacked His direction and power. He was not allowed to do anything so He would just leave.

The meeting was just like some people that will go to church on Sunday or just on Christmas or Easter. They feel they have done their duty so to speak. The real dilemma is that they have never really pleased the Lord. Jesus is more than just a picture. Jesus is real. Jesus wants a personal relationship with you. He wants intimacy with you. He wants to talk with you. He wants to lead and guide you. He wants to empower you. He wants to heal your hurts and deliver you. He wants to give you life and life abundantly. How can He do this if He is only just a picture to you? He has so much more and is so much more than just a picture on the wall that reminds you of Him. When He is in your heart and you have allowed Him to be the Lord of your life, His picture will always be inside of you. You will never need an outward substitute.

I thought of this scripture concerning this subject.

John 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Jesus said that it is better to have believed without seeing Him. The reason for this is we are saved by grace through faith. Salvation is by Faith not by sight. God says that it takes faith to please Him. So if we need a picture to believe in Jesus or think that He is around, then we are not walking in faith. We are not pleasing the Lord at all. I would encourage you to seek a deeper walk with the Lord. Start asking to become intimate with Him that you may know Him not just know about Him of what He has said in His word. Seek to know Him personally. This is where your life will become one of peace and power. This is where you will find joy unspeakable and full of glory. Make Jesus more than just a picture on the wall.

I am a 63 year old Born-Again spirit filled Christian, that has been saved for 30 years. Jesus found me when I was suicidal. I learned real quickly that I was powerless to be in control of my life, so I let Jesus take over. He has chosen me to be a warrior for Him. WE win, if we fight His way.
