Making Evangelism Easier ---The Pocket Testament League

"But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name." John 20:31
The Apostle John wrote his Gospel so that readers would believe in Jesus and "have life in His name." Unfortunately, the idea of evangelism ---sharing that Jesus is the Christ and can give us life --- is often scary to believers. Many who hear the word evangelism think of someone knocking on a door and approaching a complete stranger. For others the idea of sharing Christ with friends and loved ones means the risk of losing the relationship or being labeled a 'fanatic." Many Christians give up on the idea of evangelism before they start.
Since 1893, the Pocket Testament League has been equipping believers to share their faith by making available copies of the Gospel of John for people to give away. The organization's website, though, does much more, though, offering evangelism tools to help anyone share faith in Christ with confidence.
The website does not make the assumption that every believer is already reading God's Word regularly. It emphasizes the importance of reading the Bible daily and provides free daily devotionals to all who request them. There is also a 21-Day Challenge designed to get people to read the Gospel of John one chapter a day for 21 days as well as correspondence Bible classes.
There are also several free evangelism training available to those who sign up for the free membership. The Evangelism Boot Camp is a seven-part, self-paced online course designed to get people more comfortable handing out copies of the Gospel of John. In addition to the lessons, there are assignments designed to take people from just giving away the scripture to sharing their faith more directly. In addition, the website has an abundance of evangelism tools from ice breakers to get conversations started, to examples of how others are sharing their faith and helpful tips. Evangelism becomes practical in the section entitled "92 Ways to Share Your Faith," where creative ideas that have worked for others are listed. These free evangelism tools turn the idea of sharing your faith from frightening to fun.
The heart of the website is getting copies of the Gospel of John into the hands of people who will use scripture to fulfill the purpose the Apostle John envisioned. On the website, a person can select from a variety of covers, languages and versions of scripture. A donation to help defray costs is requested and there is even an invitation for members to sponsor others who are unable to pay for copies to distribute. Members can also sponsor specific passions and even set monthly goals for reaching people with the Gospel of John through their giving.
Membership is free, but does require registration. To become a member or learn more go to www.ptl.org.
