Children Who Go Errant!

When did I become the child,
and my children the parent?
What has happened to me . . .
that this phenomenon ~ I should inherit?

I am not old and senile,
I still have all my useful functions
but they act as if . . .
I left my caboose at the junction.

I can still form my words,
and believe I know their meaning
but it seems that my every sentence
they are constantly screening.

I remember my phone number,
and can still recall my home address
but to them you would think . . .
I've forgotten ~ how myself to dress!

I can brush and comb my hair,
and even wash my face and hands
but they act as if . . .
I should be put out to the pasture lands.

How did I get so dumb,
as they became way too smart
who put this silly notion
into their own aging heart?

When did I become the child,
and my children the parent?
Isn't this what the Bible calls . . .
children who go errant?
