Daddy

I grew up I guess as just an average boy
My first awkward steps brought Mom and Dad much joy.
I rode on a tricycle and finally a bike
Sometimes my small steps followed Daddy on a hunting hike.
As we walked along I would collect old shot shells
I'd get tired and Daddy would say, "Let's rest for a spell!"
I grew much older and yes, Daddy did too
And our times together seemed to fade to a few.
I wished I could be that small boy again
And run into Daddy's strong arms and see him grin!
If I could go back and do it over again
I would find more time with Daddy to spend.
I wished I had built a much stronger bond
With this man called Daddy, Lewis, and John!
I can't put my arms around him anymore
He left us all and went through death's door.
When I think about Daddy sometimes I cry, but
I know I'll see him in Heaven by and by.
Before death came he sent up a plea
"Please Lord Jesus have mercy on me!"
I cried at his side as Daddy took his last breath
I begged, "God don't take him please, not yet!"
But, the Lord saw fit to call him home
His weary feet no more to roam.
There's only one way I'll ever see Daddy again
I must serve Jesus and stay free from sin.
"Jesus tell Daddy I'll see him someday!"
"At the end of that Straight and Narrow way.
