Dear God Tracker

God-Tracking Is Leaning On the Crutch of the Cross

I stood listening to the young man boldly preaching the gospel on the street one morning. Just then a member of the public bellowed across the crowd of Saturday shoppers, "Your religion is just a crutch! I don't need a crutch in my life!" I gazed at the man as he strutted away seemingly self-assured. Thankfully the young preacher was accustomed to such abuse and continued to share the love of God with those who were willing to listen. I gave him a smile and a nod and went my merry way pondering the incident.

You know, it is true, Christianity is a crutch. Per definition, a physical crutch is a device used for assistance or support. A person who may have injured an ankle would use a crutch to help him walk where he would not be able to do so on his own. With your indulgence I would like to spiritualise that scenario. Imagine a good person the best and most upright individual you could imagine. Now consider what the Bible says in Romans 3:9, "There is no one righteous, not even one." If this scripture is true (and we believe it is) then even the most holy, upright and good person you could imagine is not righteous. Sin has corrupted the whole of the human race. Therefore, we could say that we have all been spiritually crippled by sin and, like the man with sprained ankle, none of us can walk on our own two spiritual feet in complete righteousness without support. This is why Jesus came to earth. Jesus was and is the only perfectly righteous person who has ever lived. The Bible says he had no sin. And yet it pleased God the Father to place our sin on him as he died on the cross so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. As a believer in Christ then, I know that as I stand before God I do not stand on my own two spiritual feet but I stand before him in Christ. Through the cross Jesus has become my assistance to salvation; the cross of Christ is my spiritual crutch!

So the next time someone tells you that your faith is a crutch tell them, "You got that right! And thank God that I will boldly stand before him on Judgment Day, because I lean on Christ." You see, without faith you would simply fall over.

God-tracking is leaning on the crutch of the cross.

Every blessing

Verse of the Week

Ephesians 2:4-5
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.

Today You Uphold Me with Your Righteous Right Hand

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Pray
"Dear Lord I realise that I cannot stand on my own two feet, spiritually. I realise that I have been saved by your grace and so I put my faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus. I confess that the cross has become my spiritual crutch my support and that I cannot stand before you without leaning on the work of Jesus upon the cross. Forgive me for taking this fact for granted and help me to walk boldly by faith in your support. Thank you that you are all I need for righteousness and good living. Today you uphold me with your righteous right hand. Praise God. Amen."
