Rock A Bye Baby

by Lisa Kurasz
10/22/2012 / Devotionals

Rock a bye baby in the tree top when the wind blows the cradle will fall.
The beginning of a nursery rhyme, but how much are we like that little line.
It's easy to sit in the arms of the Lord when everything is going well and we are gently rocked with the ebbs and flows of life, where we are sitting gently snuggled down.
But what about when the winds come.
When the loss of a job or serious illness sends you comfortable serenity away.
That time when everything around you feels like it is spinning out of control and you don't know what to do from moment to moment, when there is no good choices anymore.
And you have no peace, no sense of well being.
Those moments when your in a free fall of not knowing what to do next, when panic and fear sets in.
When trust and peace have fled from your knowledge.
When the truth that you know that you know has become a small shard in your memory.
When anxiety and anger are at the root of your actions.
When the cradle has fallen, and your trust in God is smaller than a mustard seed.

(Mat 17:20) And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

When we forget who our father is and what true love really looks like.

(Joh 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

When we forget that while we were still sinners, Jesus made that ultimate sacrifice and bought us back out of darkness sin.
We forget so quickly all that we have been given.
It's in those moments we need to hang on tighter than we may have ever held before.
To cling to the hand of Him that has breathed into us the very life we have.
To remember all the moments that God has delivered us from the impossible.
To remember the answers to our prayers.
To cling to the memory of every blessing that has been upon on us.
In clinging to these truths, and to these memories we will find the strength and peace to be carried through the impossible darkness of what we see before us.
It's not believing what we see that will get us through but the truth that we hold in our hearts.
Because deception comes at us from every direction, to unsettle us, to make us doubt and blame the Lord for all that befalls us.
But He is the one that loves us above all.
He knows the outcome, and has it all under control.
It's in holding onto that truth, we can find the peace to snuggle down and rest in His arms, knowing that no wind can knock us out of His arms.
