The Car and the Journey

by Janet Riley
11/03/2012 / Devotionals

by Janet Riley
Most of us spend a lot of time either driving, or riding in, cars. Lets think about cars and our journey in life.

I have a bad habit of running out of energy and then coming to God in prayer and asking for His help. it is like driving a car and waiting until the gas gauge was on emply to go to the gas station for a refill. It was much easier on me and on the car if I did not wait until I was on empty to come in for gas. it is easier for God to rejuvenate and refresh us in prayer if we are not totally on empty.

Then there is the question of who is driving the car of my life. Is it Jesus or me? Do I let Him start driving and then take over when I don't like the direction the car is heading? Do I put on the gas due to impatience when I think He is driving the car too slowly? Jesus is a gentleman and respects my free will. He will give up the driver's seat if I tell Him to move over.

Do I insist that there be a GPS system in the car to show all the twists and turns of the road ahead when Jesus usually only shows us one step or road at at time?

Who are the other passengers in the car? Sometimes there is a very adult, mature person who can be very patient on the journey. Other times it is the impatient child who wants to know if we are there yet. Am I enjoying the present moment of the journey?

Am I concerned about the appearance of the car and what other people will say when they see me in it? Will they judge me by the outward appearance of the car I am riding in? When I see other cars and passengers on the journey, do I look only at their external appearance or see what is inside?

May the jouney of your life be filled with God's joy and peace.
