At The Well

I was not one of the lost sheep,
that He came looking for that day
but in His travels to find them
I just happened upon His way.

I am not a wealthy woman,
my means are as low as can be
I draw for myself my own water
and at the well, I found Him to be.

I saw He was parched with thirst,
the dirt of His travels I could smell
when suddenly He turned to me
asking me for a sip from the well.

I was amazed and astounded,
that He was even talking to me
I looked around and I wondered
what if the others were to see.

He told me He needed water,
but not the kind that I drew of
He told me of this living water
that came from His father above.

He said that I'd never thirst again,
that it would put an end to my strife
and with this water He spoke of
came the springs of everlasting life.

I begged Him for some of this water,
when He began to tell me some things
and I felt the sting of my own shame
that being a sinner brings.

He talked about the false gods,
my people worshiped and adored
how they have taken the place
of the kingdom of the true Lord.

I was not one of the lost sheep,
that He came looking for that day
but when I left Him there at the well
I knew I had found heaven's way.
