WHAT IT TRULY MEANS TO BE BORN AGAIN (PART 1)

by James Manning
12/21/2012 / Christian Living

In America many will answer yes when asked are you born again; and that is because we have not understood what the bible means when it says you must born again. In fact I will venture to say that many of our preachers who are occupying our pulpits today do not understand, or know what it means to be born again. In this hour we will begin to look at this subject and discover its meaning.

Whosoever is born of God

1 John 3:8 - 9 (KJV) 8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

This is one of the most misunderstood text in the bible, verse 8 tells us that to commit sin is to be of the devil; and verse 9 says that whosoever is born again do not commit sin.

Now the theologian has completely changed the meaning of this text; instead of them allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal its meaning to them, they instead interpreted its meaning according to their life experience;

For instance; they looked at verse 8 where it says 'he that commits sin is of the devil'; and verse 9 where it says 'whosoever is born of God do not commit sin'; they looked at their life experience and concluded that this scripture could not be saying what it appear to say because we know that we all sin; and if it is saying what it appear to be saying then none of us are born of God and all of us are of the devil.

And with this kind of reasoning they placed their focus on the word commit and concluded that it could not possibly mean what it appears to mean and as a result they changed the word to mean to 'practice';

but the word 'commit' is a Greek word that means to make or do;

In other words, not a single act of sin will come from the man, woman, boy nor girl that is born again.

You see; what the theologian did not understand is what it truly means to be born again. So let's take a look at this subject and it true meaning.

Let's start out by looking at the word 'born'; the word born is a Greek word that is defined as to procreate (properly of the father. and this is the same Greek word that is used by the angel when he brought the news of the Holy conception to Joseph the husband of Mary who was the mother of Jesus.

Matthew 1:20 - 21 (KJV) 20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

The word that is translated 'conceived' in verse 20 is the same Greek word that is translated 'born in 1 John 3:9; it says; in verse 20 "for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost; and in verse 21 it says 'and she shall bring forth a son.

Now, you tell me, what comes first the conceiving of a a son or the bringing forth of a son? We all know that the conception comes first and then there shall be a bringing forth of a son in the process of time.

Now, with that thought in mind let's go back to the scripture in 1 John 3:8,9

1 John 3:8 - 9 (KJV) 8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Where we see the word 'born' we are going to replace it with the word 'conceived' and it should look something like this,

1 John 3:9; whosoever is born or conceived of God do not commit sin; why? because his seed remains in him; and he (that is conceived) can not sin; Why? Because he is born or conceived of God.

You are the seed of God; and God has conceived you and you as the seed of God cannot sin; no! not a single act of sin can come from the seed of God.

You may ask, but where is the sin coming from?

Good question; the sin comes from walking after the flesh: when you walk in the Spirit, that is the Holy Spirit you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16 (KJV) 16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

It is when you walk in the Spirit that you show yourself as the sons or children of God; but when you walk after the flesh you show yourself as the children of the devil; let's no longer identify with the devil as our father.

Never forget this, to walk in the Spirit is a fixed position that once you enter into you will remain there. There is no such thing as going in and out of the Spirit, and this is why I know that this is a place where the church has not reached yet. The Church is still walking after the flesh and don't know it; but God has a plan that will change that.

We will talk about this more the next time
