And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Psalm 107:22, 27-31
These verses are starting to mean a lot to me. We all have hard moments in our everyday lives and times when we are at our wit's end. Our situation sometimes gets more than we can handle. We may lose control by losing our temper or getting depressed--we either erupt or just bubble and boil inside. In a way we become like a drunken man, because we don't have control.
But these verses have the answer. We are to cry out to the Lord, and He has promised to help us. He can calm the storm in our heart.
When we are still struggling, we don't feel like being thankful. Just the opposite! I think that's why it's often put in the Bible as 'the sacrifice of thanksgiving.' But it is a command. And it really does help. There is always something to be thankful about!
