WHY THE DEVIL MAKES YOU SIN

by Anthony Osei Boateng
5/29/2013 / Christian Living

Psalm 103: 11-13 states: "for as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the [Lord] pitieth them that fear him (KJV). If the devil is aware of all these things, then why does he work so hard on trying to make Christians sin against God? After-all he is well aware that God will freely forgive us our sins as soon as we ask for forgiveness.

The main reason why the devil wants you to sin is that; through your sin, he gets the opportunity or basis to accuse you, make you feel guilty, sad and focus on your sin, instead of God's mercy and His willingness to forgive you and cleanse you of all unrighteousness. Remaining in that state of guilt, weakness, self-pity and sadness as a result your sin kills your faith and gives the devil access into your life, to retard your development and block you from tapping into God's blessings which He has made freely available unto you. Heb. 11:6 states "but without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him". God is ever ready to reward you for diligently seeking Him in asking for forgiveness; and it takes faith and trust in God to do this. This faith is taken away when we keep on thinking about our sins, focussing on them and feeling sorry for ourselves. By keeping this state of mind, we become defenceless and easily prone to attack by the enemy. The trouble we go through after sinning is not because God is punishing us; but rather, it is because we have refused to accept God's mercy and the devil has taken advantage of this to make our lives miserable and do whatever he likes to us.

He bases on our sins to tell us just how much unworthy we are to receive God's protection or any good thing from God because we have sinned. When we accept this thought and it replaces our faith, he gets the chance to then move in to destroy our lives. The devil tried to get Job frustrated in order for him to curse God and die; but Job said in Job 19:25 "for I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth". This was also a prophecy foretelling the coming of Jesus Christ. Instead of feeling self-pity, Job made this statement, which was a very big blow to the devil. The best way to overcome the enemy is to embrace God's mercy and have faith that God has forgiven you your sins after confessing them. When you do this, the enemy has no chance to make you feel sad or guilty. He may try to put some guilty thoughts in your mind, but respond with Acts 16:31 "if we confess our sins; He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". When we do this, we resist the devil and indeed, he will flee from us (James 4:7). As far as the east is from the west, so far has God removed our transgressions (sins) from us Psalm 103:12. Amen.
