"Mighty Man of God"

by Steve Countryman
6/03/2013 / Christian Living

It is a phrase I have heard many times before. The Bible refers to the great men of the Bible as mighty men of God. It is also a phrase that refers to us Christians, who are His children, and who are mighty men and mighty women of God. I just have a problem seeing myself as a mighty man of God. Now I know that it is a visual problem of mine. That it is the difference between what God sees me as and what I see me as. I often pray that God would give me His vision of me so I could see what God sees in me. My vision is like everyone else's and that is a vision or walk by sight. God's wants us to have a walk by faith. By my walk by sight I only see my faults, flaws and failures. By my walk of faith I see God's work active in me. Not dormant, not asleep, not waiting, not partial and not missing but active, alive and well in me!

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. This passage has helped me to understand God's vision of my life as He sees me. I know too well my weaknesses and that is why I have often asked God why He chose me for this place and time. But that is where my boasting begins. For I have two areas to boast about as we all do. First is my many areas of weaknesses. And the second area of my boasting is in my Lord God who is mighty and powerful in all He does. For He is the God of the possible from the impossible!

It is not that I boast of my weaknesses for their sake but that I have so many that God is magnified in and through all of them. WOW! It is like these devotionals that I write. All I have to do is go back and read them to see God's handy work in and through them, not mine! One that took me totally by surprise recently was a sentence that I read where I had used the word "shackles". I was not quoting scripture either. But there it was and it wasn't me! That is why I go back and re-read them so that I can read what God wrote. So let the boasting begin for God is totally awesome! It is further proof that God doesn't call the qualified but that He qualifies the called. His grace is sufficient for me!

This leads me into the second area of my boasting. For it is God who is strong in me, to me, for me, with me and through me. That is the vision that God has when He sees each of us. He sees His Son Jesus who has been deposited in each of us at the time of salvation. Where the King is or goes there His kingdom is. Just as an ambassador lives in an embassy and that embassy is part of the kingdom or country it represents on foreign soil. The embassy, it's staff and the ambassador do not answer to any outside laws or rulers but are answerable only to their own king or president. We are called to be ambassadors for Christ and our bodies are His embassies or as the Bible puts it, His temple. There is one very distinctive difference between God's kingdom and a country's embassy is that ALL of God's power and authority is present in His Son Jesus who is present, alive and active in each of us! All of heaven's power is available at our disposal in Jesus through the His Holy Spirit in us. How can you not rejoice and boast of such a God who has done this for us? God has made each of us His mighty men and women of God!
