Dear God-tracker

I once played as an extra in a film (no, it was a very small role in only one scene). It was filmed out in the Magaliesberg Mountains, north of Pretoria, South Africa. The production employed a big crew and an even bigger cast of extras, which must have been a handful to direct. I was given my instructions to walk across an open field with a bunch of other extras while the main actors were instructed to do whatever it was that they were to do. The director was the typical character that you'd always imagined a film director to be: he held a large loud haler in his hand and hollered commands to everyone. He also had a team of runners around him who would dart in and out of props and actors carrying out his instructions. At the director's side sat the continuity girl who, with clipboard in hand, kept tabs on every actor's and every extra's position and expression. She acted on behalf of the director, maintaining every aspect of the shape and form that was playing out in the scene before him. To me it seemed as though the director was omnipresent and omniscient. Every crew member, actor, and extra kept his eyes and ears tuned to his voice so that he would not miss his or her mark.

Dear God Tracker, the Lord is the Director in this production of we call life. Just as the crew and cast of a film production follow their director's instructions so we need to explicitly follow God's instructions as we seek to track his plans and purposes. And our Director is truly omnipresent and omniscient as well as omnipotent. Like the continuity girl, the Holy Spirit is aware of every gesture, every move and every expression of our lives and has the power to give our lives meaning. On the movie set, the whole company fixes its eyes on the director and follows his directions. Likewise, on the stage of your life you too need to fix your eyes on Jesus, the author the perfector and the Director of your faith. By his Word and through his Spirit he will direct the story of your life, if you will simply allow him to.

God-tracking is allowing him to direct the story of your life.

Direct me according to your purposes

O my Lord I'm sorry for trying to do things my way. I realise now that you are the only one who can direct my life. I want to let go of my own ideas and turn my life over to your purposes. I've cluttered up my pathway so much that I'm tripping with every step I take. Help me to hear your voice; help me to see your hand and help me to follow your gaze. Lord I choose to step out in faith and put my trust in your plans for my life. Jesus, I fix my eyes on you to follow your script for my life. Direct me according to your purposes, Lord. Amen.
