A Final Word on Homosexuality

I saw a newspaper article recently and it was written by someone who was either a homosexual or favoured homosexuality. Having covered homosexuality from a Christian perspective in previous articles and made a half-hearted promise that I was finished with the subject, the article opened my eyes to another aspect that I did not cover previous.

The article writer was adamant that what was wrong or regarded as wrong in the "old days" are not necessarily wrong today. Of course the writer is correct because a degenerate world has a tendency to chop and change its morals to suit the prevailing fads. In Old Testament times adultery was punished by death, "And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death." (Leviticus 20:10) but today, as far as I know, no country in the world does that.

The truth is that a degenerate world takes pleasure in evil things, and in the doers of wickedness, and in all likelihood it will continue to do so until the end of the world. As this world sinks deeper and deeper into depravity, the moral landmarks, that were put in place to guide and uplift humanity, are being progressively demolished.

However that may be, believers cannot and should not take their standards and moral rectitude from a decadent world heading to perdition; that would be utter folly.

One thing you can be sure of, and it has never been breached during man's entire existence, and that is that God has never branded something as evil or abominable or perverse at one time and at some later date called it good and wholesome. This has never happened and will never happen, absolutely not, for the God of Creation cannot lie:

"Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us." (Hebrews 6:17-18)

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19)

"The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever." (Isaiah 40:8)

So there you have it and it is very clear. God cannot lie.

Believers everywhere trust God at his word and live and die by His pronouncements and teachings. This is not some new thing since all saints throughout history has done this.

God says this about homosexuality:

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." (Leviticus 20:13)

God made homosexuality an act that carried capital punishment because this act is so repugnant, abhorrent, detestable and revolting and is so toxic to the morality and spirituality of humanity that God wanted to have none of it among his people. This deterrent worked so well that for hundreds of years homosexuality and lesbianism was virtually unknown among Israelites and where it did exist it was so minor and hidden away that it did not corrupt public morals.

Countries all across the world had laws against the practice of homosexuality and lesbianism and the laws were under such headings as corruption of public morals, sodomy, etc., but now these laws are being overturned in a mad rush by hapless, non-religious, secular people.

All of this is evidence of a decaying society.

Sodom and Gomorrah were not always decadent but they declined slowly until God wiped them out from the face of the world. These cities got so deplorable that they were virtually all engaged in perverted, detestable sex until no straight person was safe. Here is how the Bible records their attitude to strangers who visited Lot:

"Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom both young and old surrounded the house. They called to Lot, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them." (Genesis 19:4-5 New International Version - UK)

When societies decline all kinds of perversions take place, and often this is no gentlemen's agreement or mutually agreed activity but brutal compulsion and naked terror by depraved thugs as here described:

"Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing. Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof. Get out of our way, they replied. This fellow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them. They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door." (Genesis 19:6-9 New International Version - UK)

Homosexuality was not the only evil that carried the death penalty, other crimes that carried the death penalty included incest, bestiality, cursing your parents and witchcraft (Leviticus 20:6-20)

Here is something that most people who are engaged in this homosexuality debate do not fully appreciate. God is interested and has a vested interest in the whole man, in all aspects of his being, i.e. body, soul and spirit and as a result God wants the best for man and tries to prevent man from injuries whether self-inflicted or otherwise. Every caring parent has the same concerns for his or her child and it is understandable and wholly reasonable for God to take the necessary measures to protect and preserve mankind.

I like the way Adam Clarke in his Bible Commentary on The Scriptures sums this up:

"Whatever has a tendency to corrupt or injure man, that it forbids; whatever is calculated to comfort him, promote and secure his best interests, that it commands. It takes him in all possible states, views him in all connections, and provides for his present and eternal happiness."

Homosexuality is forbidden not because it was fanciful to forbid it in Bible times but because it is a perversion that does harm to humanity, is a vulgar abomination in God's sight and, as shown in recent times, brings new strains of deadly diseases like HIV virus and Aids that have killed untold thousands if not millions. This is not conjecture or slander. This is a fact.

People who have homosexual tendencies should do the proper thing and remain celibate and thereby live ordinary proper lives.

Same-sex marriage is an absurdity and time will show to what debilitating extent. Nations and individuals can thumb their noses at God but ultimately there is a price to be paid. It is still true what the Bible says, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." (Proverbs 14:34)

Believers should never confuse that which society ACCEPTS with that which is RIGHT. God is the core and the fountain of wisdom and truth and from him alone flows all that is right and proper. Societies are forever volatile and its morals can rise and fall like a yo-yo. God on the other hand does not change: "For I am the LORD, I change not." (Malachi 3:6)

Enough said.
