I am a broken tambourine;
I beat the rhythm before the Lord;
the bangles flash and sing their tinny music
to the Lord.
He sought me and bought me,
knowing how I'd sound
and where the cracks are in my frame.
So I make music for the Lord,
I cry praises to the Lord
in my peculiar,
for I am a broken tambourine,
and I will play
until my frame lies shattered on the ground
in pieces still reverberating
from the song,
the last song I beat out with the cracks in my sides
and the tiny cymbals flashing.
