2 Timothy 3:9

But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

1."But they shall proceed no further"

a. proceed [4298 * prokopto] [Zodhiates: To beat or drive forward as if with repeated strokes, hence to go forward or further. Make progress.]

2. "for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was."

a. folly [454 * anoia; a-without; nous-mind] [Zodhiates: Madness, folly, lack of understanding.]

b. manifest [1552 * ekdelos] [Zodhiates: Quite plain, conspicuous, very evident.]

c. Amp. Bible: "But they will not get very far, for their rash folly will become obvious to everybody, as was that of those [magicians mentioned].

d. Jannes and Jambres are mentioned only once in The Bible, by the apostle Paul in the second epistle to Timothy. Although they are not identified by name in the Old Testament, Rabbinic tradition holds that Jannes and Jambres were, or were among, the magicians who opposed Moses and Aaron at the time of the Exodus. The tradition would certainly be valid, otherwise Paul, while writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, would not have made it a part of the New Testament record. Jannes and Jambres obviously had "miraculous" powers, but unlike Moses and Aaron who were empowered by God, the Pharaoh's magicians were fraudulent and/or Satanic. e. These individuals imitated the miracles of Moses of snakes, blood, frogs, but they failed when it came to the gnats they failed to imitate it. This is what is meant when the Scripture says, "their madness was evident to all."
