"Sit still; stop that squirming!"
Parents, grandparents and guardians relentlessly reprimand children in worship services.
"Don't you move!"
Overactive children find the instructions distasteful.
My heavenly Father speaks.
"Be still!" (Psalm 46:10a)
I squirm and avoid heart contact. I have things to do.
I continue to move about going from task-to-task.
The LORD's command seems illogical and unattainable.
He has my best interests in mind.
When I am still, I sense His presence, peace, purpose and power.
An attentive parent protects their child; an approaching enemy and predator is ready to pounce. God urges me to be still. My slightest movement outside His perfect makes me vulnerable to the devil's whiles. As deceiver and accuser he traps the unsuspecting.
"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.'
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah (Psalm 46:10-11 NIV)."
