EXCESS LUGGAGE

by John Seun
11/28/2013 / Christian Living

Sitting on a tiny seat in the economy section of the airplane on my way home from a long journey, though I have numerous things to be excited about but my mind cannot help but wonder the huge amount of money I was charged at the check-in point for excess luggage, the stern face of the teller when he was billing me for the luggage and how I had pleaded for leniency but to no avail. A thousand and one questions flashed through my mind: why did I even fly; why will I pay over sixty percent of my ticket cost on luggage; why do I have to carry the load? Then, I realized I was carrying a heavier luggage than the one I had paid for: WORRY.

Worry is a very heavy luggage that millions carry endlessly. Some carry this luggage without even realizing it and to many, it seems justifiable to just worry about things. Why won't you worry about food when you have none for you and your family; why won't you worry about money when you have bills waiting for payment yet no money in your account; will you not worry about having a child if you have been married for many years and no child; will you not quiver when it is obvious that your marriage is heading for the rocks. All these are "justifiable" worry components but Psalm 34:10 says: Even lions go hungry for lack of food, but those who obey the LORD lack nothing good. That is, you need not to worry. All you need to do is OBEY (trust). Jesus, in the book of Mathew 6: 25-34, stated fundamentals of worry and gave concise explanation of them all:
"This is why I tell you: do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes for your body. After all, isn't life worth more than food? And isn't the body worth more than clothes?
Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren't you worth much more than birds?
Can any of you live a bit longer[a] by worrying about it?
"And why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow: they do not work or make clothes for themselves.
But I tell you that not even King Solomon with all his wealth had clothes as beautiful as one of these flowers.
It is God who clothes the wild grassgrass that is here today and gone tomorrow, burned up in the oven. Won't he be all the more sure to clothe you? What little faith you have!
"So do not start worrying: 'Where will my food come from? or my drink? or my clothes?'
(These are the things the pagans are always concerned about.) YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN KNOWS THAT YOU NEED ALL THESE THINGS.
Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things.
So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings."

Your worry is an exhibition of your lack of trust in God. It is permitted for pagans (unbelievers) to worry (Matt 6:32) as a matter of fact, worry is the major trait that discerns believers from unbelievers for as long as you remain a child of God you need not worry. God is not a liar; come unto me He said (Matt 11:28-30). If He can't accommodate you He would not have promised. "There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever." (Mahatma Gandhi)

When you worry, you add to your troubles. I remember a song by Bobby McFerrin titled 'Don't Worry Be Happy". He stated that in this life you will have some troubles but when you worry you make it double. I believe he was affirming the provisions of the Law of Life as stated in John Section 16 and subsection 33.

When you worry, you carry excess luggage and believe me you don't want to carry excess luggage (you will pay through your nose). "Those who do not know how to fight worry die young." (http://www.westegg.com/unmaintained/carnegie/stop-worry.html). Diligently follow the advice of Henry Ford: "I believe God is managing affairs and that He doesn't need any advice from me. With God in charge, I believe everything will work out for the best in the end. So what is there to worry about."

Confront your troubles and challenge that wall. Remember what Robert Frost said about worry: "The reason why worry kills more people than work is that more people worry than work." Don't be a sloth, don't kill yourself before your time. Be of good cheer. The antidote to worry is happiness. Create happiness if you think you have no reason to be happy.

Trust completely in God and in case you are not born again, now is the time to liberate yourself completely from worry.

Have a good laugh and remain blessed in Jesus Name
