Whose Idea Was This?

Have you ever sensed the Lord speaking to you about something that He either was going to do for you or through you and it just never seems to materialize? Maybe this will shed some light on your struggle.

Years ago the Holy Spirit spoke to me about a song that he wanted me to sing while on the worship team at my church. I found that just because God wanted something that it didn't mean that the church did. This is what happened.

I approached the song leader about the song and was told that we didn't sing that kind of music in this church. I wondered of course what the "that" kind of music was that she was so against. Obviously she was not going to allow me to sing this. I had a dilemma. God said to do it but man said I couldn't. So what was I to do? I couldn't just run up and start singing as the Word says let everything be done decently and in order. I knew I couldn't force the issue. I finally came to the conclusion that if the Lord wanted this done that he would have to do it and somehow cause an open door for it to be done.

About six months later I woke up early and the Lord told me to go to the prayer meeting that Saturday morning. En-route He showed me everything that I was to pray. That rarely happened but it was so powerful. I prayed everything that He showed me and was standing at the altar worshiping him when He showed me much of the church body on their face at the altar before him. This was exciting but I had no idea the when and how. The next morning I went to the church service and found that there was a guest evangelist and his wife leading the service. Our pastor was out of town. Shortly after he started ministering the people went forward and got on their face before the Lord at the altar. I was amazed and was just soaking everything in. All the sudden the Lord told me to go up front also. I couldn't figure why I needed to but obeyed. When I got up there the Holy Spirit said to go and get on the platform with the speaker. This seemed odd and I was unsure that I should do this but I obeyed. All the sudden the speaker started singing the song the Lord had told me to sing six months earlier. The Holy Spirit then said now go get a microphone and sing the song. I did and then the speaker started ministering to all the people up front as I was singing the song solo. Even though man said no, God said yes. He watched over His word to perform it.

I have looked at this as a learning experience for me. I have learned that just because God says to do something that it does not mean at that particular moment. I have learned that we may think that if it does not take place right away that we either did not hear correctly from the Lord or we did or did not do something that kept it from taking place. I found that, yes, we can mess up but it is Gods project. If He said this is what He wants then somehow it is his job and in his wisdom and power to do what He says. So often we seem to take on the responsibility of making what the Lord told to us happen. We forget that it is not our project. We are not walking under the law. God does not ask us to fulfill what He wants to do by our flesh. God does things by his spirit. I have learned that the best thing that we can do is lay it down. It is not about us; it is only about Him!

In the preceding experience that I had God watched over His word and performed it just like He said that He would do. My job was to get out of the way and give it back to him and not try to make it happen in my strength.

Often the Lord has told us many things that have yet to materialize. We wonder as to why. God has his own way and timing. He desires to do things through us by His Spirit. We need to just take our hands off and learn to trust that what He said that HE will do. When we have hold of it, then God doesn't. We must let go if we are to see Him do what He wants to do with us and through us. Whether it is a word that is something done through us or for us it is still the same. I have many words from the Lord about things that He said that He would do for me that have never materialized. I have learned that all I can do is to lay them down. I remind him of what He said and thank and praise him in faith believing but beyond that I have no control over His will, timing, and project. Sometimes I think one of our best lessons is to learn to not strive but just to trust Him as a little child. We would find that we were more at peace and content in him. If it is His idea, then it is His job to make it happen, not ours. Our job is to just be obedient to what He tells us to do.
