The Holy Spirit and the Church

by Bobby Bruno
4/15/2014 / Christian Living

I believe as Stafford does, that all men are being called to salvation, but for whatever reason not all respond with a "yes" (sheep). The main reason why I believe that not all people come to Christ when called is due to either pride, self-will, but most importantly, they are not desperate enough to be saved. In my own experience, I lived by my own will because I thought that was how I was supposed to live. I didn't "see" or "hear" Jesus because I had too much going on in my head to even hear His still, small voice calling me. It wasn't until a painful discovery about my life came in and tried to completely destroy me did I even give a slightest thought about what Jesus could do for me. As I tried to commit suicide, Jesus came and physically and audibly stopped me. Even then I didn't respond with a yes. It was only after a few months of deep reflection, and Jesus' still, small voice continually speaking to me that I realized that I needed Him.

I believe that you have to want to be saved. Romans 10:13 (AMP) says "For everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord [invoking Him as Lord] will be saved." Those who don't want to be saved have no excuse. Romans 10:16-18 (AMP) says "But they have not all heeded the Gospel; for Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed (had faith in) what he has heard from us? So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself). But I ask, Have they not heard? Indeed they have; [for the Scripture says] Their voice [that of nature bearing God's message] has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the far bounds of the world."

People who go around thinking that they don't need a Savior still need a Savior. People who don't need Jesus just because they are self-sufficient on their own and are doing okay, thank you, will only see themselves as their own provider, comforter, god, etc... Again, I believe that Jesus calls every person on this planet. I also believe that Jesus knows who will and who will not respond to His call. I believe that He goes after those who will respond more than he goes after those who won't. Some people believe that we are all going to heaven because of our good works. It is those people who will never accept Jesus as their Savior because they refuse to see their need to be saved, even though most of these people know that they need to be saved by grace. All are being called, and all are supposed to respond. Unfortunately, some respond with a "no" (goats).

I am influenced to share the Gospel because everyone needs to be saved whether they want to or not. This doesn't mean that I force Christianity down their throats, but it does mean that I know where their hearts should be, and I tug at their heartstrings by being a good example of Christ to them, and in letting them know just how much Jesus loves them by being as much like Him as I can at this point in my walk.

This is what every serious believer must do -- research everything you read in the bible so you can be shown the truth through the Holy Spirit's leading. Do not rely on any man to tell you what the Bible says unless that man is truly hearing from the Spirit, but search the meanings out for yourself. Yes, we must listen to our Pastors because God put them there to help us understand His Word and to help us live it right. No man is infallible, but the Spirit will correct anything you hear that isn't right and through His spirit in you, will lead to the place where you will know that what you believe is right.
