When Were You Saved?
When we took that step of Faith and asked the Lord to be our Savior, do we remember that important date in our life? We have many very important dates here on earth such as our birth date, marriage date, when we went into the military and date we retired, as they all have an effect on our lives and things we do each day. The day we were born again into the Christian family sometimes is forgotten although we may know the approximate year we made that spiritual decision.
Having attended church all my life with my parents and siblings, I knew I was saved about the age of eleven but did not know the date. Today, while looking through my church papers that I had collected over the years and those my mother saved for me, I found the small Bible that I was given by the pastor when I accepted the Lord as my Savior. Wow, what a surprise as it told me the exact date I accepted our gracious and loving Lord Jesus Christ as the Master of my life. I felt like King David in the Old Testament when he wrote. Psalm 27:1, The Lord is my light and my salvation."
The small Bible has the date Feb 18, 1941, when I was 9 years old, and has Bible verses about Salvation and Faith in my own handwriting. Ephesians 2:8. Romans 3: 23-28 and Hebrews 6: 4,5,6. in the front pages. As an aged man today of eighty one years, finding this Bible makes me feel young again looking back some seventy three years ago when the Lord found me and made me His child and servant. I have been trying to walk close by His side but have failed over and over many times. However, our Lord Jesus Christ is always there to pick us up when we fall and we ask for His mercy and forgiveness. He gave me a Bible verse many years ago to use whenever I strayed away - Matthew 21:22 "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."
In the front of the Bible it reads., The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments. Translated out of the original tongues: and with the former translations compared and revised, By The Majesty's Special Command. Appointed to be read in churches. Then in the back of the small Bible it reads: Printed in Great Britain at the University Press, Oxford, by John Johnson printer to the University.
This small old English Bible gave me the date I turned my life as a young boy over to the Lord and with my mouth proclaimed that Jesus is the Son of God the Father, and that He died on the cross, was buried, and rose on the third day. I tell everyone I come in contact how our living Lord and Savior Jesus Christ answers our prayers when we become one of His children.
Trust we will be in the church of our choice this Sunday, worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
