THE SECRET TO PERMANENT RIGHTEOUSNESS

by Anthony Osei Boateng
4/26/2014 / Christian Living

Our Lord Jesus walked on the face of this earth and never sinned, but many Christians find it very difficult to constantly remain in a life of righteousness. 2Cor. 2:15 states Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here! (NIV). The ripple effect of this newness of life is a life of righteousness but many Christians still struggle with leading a perpetual uninterrupted life of righteousness. Gal. 5:16 states "so I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh".

Hence the secret to a life of permanent righteousness is a constant walk with the Spirit. By doing so we shall remain in Jesus Christ, for the Spirit knows the mind of Christ 1Cor. 2:11.
There is no way a Christian can maintain a form of self-righteousness apart from righteousness attained through a deep walk with the Spirit of God. John 15:6 states: "if you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned".

So how do we remain in Christ; and how do we walk intimately with the Holy Spirit so as not to gratify the desires of the flesh? The first step is to be in tune with the Holy Spirit at every second of our life, talk with Him and involve Him in our day-to-day activities. Our talk with the Holy Spirit will serve as our prayer onto God. Secondly, the Holy Spirit brings into remembrance all that we have studied, hence we should always study the word of God, so that the Holy Spirit will help us to further understand it and also explain the mysteries in every Bible passage we read. Just ask and it shall be given onto you.

Finally we will see the Holy Spirit at work in us if we do the work of God and serve in God's house. There is so much which God has deposited in us, His children, but we will not see it at work until we avail ourselves to work in God's vineyard.
A life of continuous righteousness pleases God. The Bible says in Psalm 103:6: "blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times".
