LEN'S LINES A Little Religion On A Positive Note By Len Granger

God's Church

Recently I read where 1500 preachers a month leave the ministry and 87% of their wives want them to do another type of work. I wondered, why have so many of God's shepherds of His people become so discouraged that they gave up their calling to serve the Lord?

Maybe they felt their church body was not the group that would honor the Lord as the perfect type church? We see in the Bible 1 Corinthains 12:23 " And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable , upon these we bestow more abundant honour, and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness."

Their is no perfect church body today as only our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is without sin. Our churches are made up of sinners saved by Grace and all of us as church members daily need to ask the Lord for His forgiveness. Remember, the body of the church comes in many different groups. Some churches appeal to the young person with their music and sermons; other churches/missions reach the poor and homeless . Then we have prison ministries and churches that are made up of all age groups.

The small country I attend is of the "Old Time Religion" type with the music and sermons that appeal to the older generation. They may not have felt comfortable in other type churches as the members come from ten to thirty miles to be apart of this church family. Also each week the Sunday services are filled with visitors that have heard about the Bible preaching church in the country.

Our pastor of some twenty-seven years might feel that we do not have the perfect type church, however our church meets the spiritual needs of many. We pray he never feels discouraged as his sermons from the Lord are a blessing to a growing older percentage of our population.

My great grandfather in 1853 helped build the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa that still is filled with Christians after all these years. A few years ago when I visited this small country church, it was evident that most of the congregation was retired farm families and their widows.

Each congregation becomes a part of the overall plan of God's Church and pastors can serve the Lord as the Shepherd in so many different ways. We pray the little country churches never change.

Trust this Sunday we will all be in the church of our choice singing and worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
