The Obstacles of Us

by Steve Countryman

It seems that year after year you hear Christians say "Why isn't God doing mighty things on earth?" "If this is the last of the last days then why isn't God doing miracles all over the place?" "Where is the moving of His Holy Spirit on all flesh?" The truth is that God is pouring out His Holy Spirit but are you allowing Him to pour it in you? Are you waiting for God to do the impossible or are you expecting God to do the impossible through you?

Philippians 2:13 "for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose." God has decided that He will act and fulfill His will on earth only through mankind. He prefers that we would willingly and obediently follow His leading but He will have His way. Jonah was a prophet who wanted God to punish the Ninevites and didn't want to go to them as God had told him to do to preach to them. Jonah was a stubborn man who waited until the third day in the belly of the whale before he cried out to God to rescue him. God used Jonah in spite of his reluctance to go to Nineveh because God works His will through man.

For God to do the impossible through you daily you have to be willing, obedient and available. But we all start out making the same mistakes. I am no different and struggle too. We want God to work through us but to do so our way not His way. We are our own obstacles. God expects us to be "door openers" who make opportunities for God to do the impossible. He requires us to do so in acts of obedience, He doesn't require us to perform any miracles. For we can do nothing without God but we can give God EVERY opportunity to do all things through us!

Our problem is that we all use a variety of excuses to avoid telling others about the salvation work of the cross and about Jesus and His healing delivering power. The truth is that it isn't about us. It isn't about what we feel or think. It isn't about what others might think about us. It isn't about if God will heal or delver them at that moment. It isn't about God doing it our way or when we want Him to. It's not even about how it makes us look to others. It is all about Jesus! It is about God's love. All of the obstacles of us are fear based. What if everything we did, encouraged and allowed was faith based? What would we then see and witness from our powerful awesome God of the impossible?

We are children of the Most High God. As His children we get to boast in His love, in His power, in His miracles and deliverance. But how can we do that if we don't let God be God through us? How do we show the world how great our God is if we tie His hands then ask him why He isn't doing any miracles? It all starts with us. We need to be filled with His Holy Spirit. Then we can pray for the leading of the Holy Spirit to guide us and fill us with His courage, boldness, zeal and passion. We have to become Christians who are Christ-like by encouraging the moving of the Holy Spirit through us. Not to be the so called Christians who hinder and block His every move in our daily lives. Our walk of faith does not limit God's abilities in us, with us, for us, to us and most of all through us. We have been ordained, anointed, instructed and empowered to bear much good fruit. Our fruit is most evident by what we allow God to do through us! John 14:12 "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."
