Chronology of Sin

"In the beginning God created heaven and earth" (Gen 1:1 /GW). From the hand of God all of creation was formed. From the land, to the animals, to the humans that populate it, the earth, and all that is on its surface, was given life in paradise. Life was good for the first humans until they failed to obey God, and were cast out of their perfect land to inhabit a land not quite so perfect. The greatest thing about the Fall was in the fact that Jesus Christ was announced as the salvation to the humans because He would come along and crush the serpent's head once and for all (Gen 3:15).

Thanks to the fall of man, we cannot see the true beauty of all that God has created for us. Today we see as through a glass darkly (Lam 5:17), the fog of evil had veiled our eyes to the truth of our ways. Thankfully for us, God had already had a plan in place to send His Son t the proper time to set us free from the sin we have entangled ourselves in. Jesus will one day crush the head of Satan and jail him for all of eternity.

Because the Fall had brought sin into the world, evil things began to happen to the humans. Things they never would have thought of ever doing in paradise. For example, Cain and Abel both (Gen 4) would have brought God a perfect offering to the alter as a sacrifice to God for His blessings on their lives, but Cain grew lazy and brought an offering of plants that God would not accept because it was not the best Cain could have done. Abel, on the other hand, brought meat to the table, a sacrifice that God gladly accepted. God cursed Cain for his lack of worship and forced him to have to work hard to get the ground to produce anything worthwhile to eat. Cain, in his anger sought out his brother Abel and killed him in cold blood as his anger raged over God's acceptance of his brother's offering. Cain was left to wander the earth never finding a home to call his own.

Today, it is the same way with all of us. The sin within us keeps us running away from God, even if we don't know that we are doing so. Like Cain, we allow our emotions to get the best of us and we end up doing things we once told ourselves we would never do, things that we knew weren't right. The first thing a murderer does after killing another person is to run away and hide, trying to stay one step ahead of the law. This is the same thing we do with our sin. Just as Cain buried his brother, knowing that he would be missed, acted as if nothing was wrong, which is the same thing we do in our sin. We hide our sin from ourselves even though we know that they are still there in our minds and hearts, crying out to us from the dark ground of our hearts. Just as Abel's blood cried out to God from the ground under which he was buried, our sins cry out to God just a loud. If Cain, as we should do, had called out to God in his suffering, his legacy would have turned out differently. When we cry out to God instead of letting our sins do the crying, we can find forgiveness for those sins and be free to live in truth once again.

Finally, God had had enough of the evil of man (Gen 6). God wanted nothing more to do with this vile creation He placed on His good earth and decided to wipe man from the face of the earth. Except for Noah and his family, that is (Gen 6, 7, 8). Noah was a righteous man that God knew He could count on to do Him a huge favor, build Him an ark big enough to carry pairs of animals and his own family. Being an obedient man, Noah built the ark at the ridicule of is neighbors and friends. For two hundred and fifty years, Noah hammered away at God's project. Once he had completed it, God filled it with two of every animal and Noah's family and sent the world-wide flood that covered all the earth to a depth twenty-three feet higher than the tallest mountain. When the waters receded and the ark found land, Noah and his family, along with all of the animals, disembarked the ark, where Noah built and altar to God for the safe trip and
delivery of all involved. God made a covenant with Noah about humanities future and then put a rainbow in the sky and said that anytime we see a rainbow in the sky it should remind us that would no longer destroy the earth with another flood (Gen 9:13).

Today, God is still making covenants with those who follow Him. But no longer does God destroy man when he sins. God decided to send His Son, Jesus, to die for us, and to take our sins upon Himself, so that we can be declared righteous in God's eyes the same way that He declared Noah righteous because of His great faith in Him. Even in New Testament times Noah was celebrated as a righteous man because of his faith in God (Heb 11:7). God always rewards those who show their faithfulness in Him.

Still, with all that God had done to wipe out evil, it soon returned in Noah's family. One day, Noah's son, Ham, found his father naked in his tent after drinking to excess. But, instead of covering his father up like he should have to protect his father's humility, Ham went and told his brothers Shem and Japheth who covered their father up as Ham should have done himself. This shamed Noah who cursed Ham and the nation Ham (Canaan) would become for letting his father's indiscretion to be known by anyone else.

Today, we see this war between fathers and sons being lived out every day. Jesus even said that He was here to divided a father against his son, mother against daughter (Lk 12: 53). More and more homes are being broken because of the sins of family members against each other, all believing that they need different things to live, instead of believing that they all need the same things to live each other. Families are no different today than they were in the days of the Old Testament. They all still need God to guide them. Ham used a serious incident as a joke to tell his brothers. Today, fathers still send their sons away for disobedience of the hose rules. The sins of the fathers always get relived in the sins of the sons.

Again, God had had enough of humans thinking that they could do whatever they wanted, and followed whatever god they wanted. This time, instead of wanton sinfulness as in the days of the Noah, man decided to build a tower (Gen 11) to God that would reach into the heavens to show their own greatness. This angered God, who could not destroy man a second time thanks to His promise to Noah. Instead, God scattered the people all throughout the lands and gave them different languages so that they could not communicate such nonsense anymore.

Today, we find that man can again speak the same languages and can again understand one another. This has had an impact on humanity, as it did at Babel, as men, in many different countries, follow many different gods which can reach into the thousands in some countries. In a world of seven billion people, only one billion claim themselves as followers of Jesus Christ. The other six billion people are either undecided about Jesus Christ or simply don't care to follow and religion the world has to offer simply because they feel they don't need religion or Jesus Christ.

Throughout this vast history of the Bible, we see one theme running through its pages men and women under the control of a sinful nature they can't get away from. Since "In the beginning" God has had a plan to relieve man of that sinful nature for all of eternity, if man would just but buy into that plan they would see the truth of life and of why they are here on this earth. Jesus Christ lived and died on this earth to give us that freedom. As Satan did to Adam and Eve, he still does to us today keep us in the dark and from seeing the light that is Jesus Christ. God's plan from the beginning is to save His creation and all who want to be saved with it.
