7 Steps To Maintain Your Faith During A Storm Of Life

by Ngozi Nwoke
5/28/2014 / Christian Living

Do you have a challenge that is really weighing you down and you have been struggling to stand by faith? Storms of life are real; as long you are on earth, challenges will come. And as a man of God said, if you don't want challenges then you will have to die first. However, every mountain is surmountable if you will stand firmly by faith till you see your answered prayer. This post gives you the steps to maintain your faith during a storm of life.

(as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations") in the presence of Him whom he believed-God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be." And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform - Romans 4:17-21 (NKJV)

There is always a test before a testimony and a fight before any victory. Victory is sure for every Christian believer who will have faith in God. So, the issue is how to maintain your faith till you have your testimony. Many people have given up at the verge of their turnaround. But you can stand strong till you get your answered prayer.

Let's consider the steps that gave Abraham his Isaac as recorded in Romans 4:17-21. Abraham didn't have a child for many years after marrying Sarah. One day, at the age of 75, God promised to make him a father of many nations (Genesis 12:1-4), but Abraham had to wait for another 25 years before having Isaac through whom the promise was to be fulfilled - Genesis 21:5.

The steps to maintain your faith during storms of life

1. Locate the word of God that promises you victory over that challenge.

This is very important because God is committed to fulfilling His words. God will not break His covenant nor alter the words that have gone out of His mouth - Psalm 89:34. If you stand on that promise of God like Abraham did, victory is sure.

God promised to make Abraham a father of many nations and he held unto it till Isaac was born.

2. Be assured of God who promised it.

Human beings make promises but sometimes fail to fulfill it. But that is not the case with our God; what He says, He surely will do Isaiah 55:11. You need to know your God and believe in His words totally.

Abraham was assured that God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did, was more than able to give him a son.

3. Have hope against all odds

Against all odds have hope that it shall be even as God had promised. No matter how raging the storm of life may be, in hope believe God.

The state of Abraham's body and Sarah's body was screaming impossible case to Abraham but he hoped against hope that he would become the father of many nations and he did.

4. Magnify God's word above the challenge

Like Moses' rod that swallowed up the Egypt magicians' rods in Exodus 7:8-11, God's word will always swallow up any contrary word. Faith comes by hearing the word of God, so your faith gets stronger as you declare God's word instead of the challenge. You need to keep saying God's word even if the people around you are saying otherwise. As you are saying it, you are hearing it and your faith is being strengthened.

Abraham magnified God's promise to him above the deadness of his body and Sarah's womb. He didn't consider or try to analyze them at all; he believed that God's word will prevail over the negative circumstance.

5. Don't stagger at God's word that promises your victory.

Don't entertain doubts or unbelief. When they come (because they will come) quickly discard them with what God said. Open your mouth and loudly declare the promise. The enemy had spoken to you through doubt so reply him also with spoken words and God's word in your mouth will swallow his doubt. God admonished us to open our mouths wide and He will fill it and give us victory - Psalm 81:10-14

6. Consistently give glory to God

Your faith will grow as you praise and thank God always. The challenge will keep diminishing before you until it disappears completely. What will I give glory to God for in the midst of this storm of life you may ask? But if you think well, you will see so-oo o many things to glorify God for, at least you are a child of God.

Giving glory to God provokes His intervention and it is a proof that you actually believe God. And not giving Him glory attracts His wrath (Acts 12:20-24) because He will not share His glory with any other - Isaiah 42:8.

7. Remain fully convinced that God is able to do what He promised.

Never lose sight of what you have been doing, continue to follow the six steps above. As you do so you will keep reminding yourself that the challenge is a settled case, no matter how long it lingers.

Remember Abraham had 25 years to wait for Isaac after God promised to make him a great nation, but he maintained his faith all through, being fully convinced that what God had promised He was also able to perform.

In conclusion, the storms of life are real but God has ordained you to overcome all. You need to maintain your faith during the waiting period so that you can celebrate at the end. Abraham waited, yet never lost faith in God and he finally got his Isaac. As you follow the above seven steps, you too will receive your own Isaac (your heart desire).
