Where Lies Your Power?

by Olawale Ogunsola

People have come into this world, acted their own part and departed. Their acts, good, bad or ugly, are now history. One sure thing is that: there are lessons to learn by the present inhabitants of the universe. This should influence their conducts for the better because they will also become part of history one day.

There is an interesting story of a man and a woman in the Holy Bible. Their names are Samson and Delilah respectively. They were involved in " false and deceitful courtship" because the woman was only " an emissary of death" in the powerful man's life. The woman asked him,
"Please, tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you."

Samson deceived her three times. Delilah continued to pester him on daily basis with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death and he finally caved in. He said,
"No razor has ever came upon my head, for I have been a Nazarite to God from my mother's womb. If I am shaven, then my strength will leave me and I shall become weak, and be like any other man."

Now, let us examine three lessons, among others, from the conversations between the two "lovers".

Lesson one.
Samson was not a stranger to himself; he knew who he was (a Nazarite from the womb) and where his power was (the unshaven locks on his head. He preserved it for a long time.

The question now is "do you know where your strength is?" You must identify what differentiate you from the crowd. If you fail to know this, it means you are prepared to fail in life because you will not fulfil your unique assignments.

Find out where your strength is today.

Lesson two.
During the cause of preserving his power, Samson exhibited it for both friends and foes to see. His people, the Israelites, knew him as their God-sent savior because he delivered them from the claws of all enemies with his power for twenty years.

Enemies, most especially the Philistines, singled him out as their most powerful and dangerous adversary who prevented them from enslaving Israel.

If you have identified where your power is, employ it for the benefits of people of your generation. Be an asset of inestimable value to them.

Go and shine forth in your power.

Lesson three.
What destroyed Samson was the disclosure of his "power house" to enemies' agent who wasted no time to sell him. Thereafter, he was afflicted, they removed his eyes; and dealt with him as they loved .

Power loss is a tragedy.

Therefore, never be careless with your source of strength. Keep it to yourself. The enemy of your welfare is looking for the opportunity to know and destroy it. Will you allow that?

It is therefore imperative for you to know your power and its source, use it for the advantage of others and never allow the prying eyes of your foes to know it so that they will not have access to destroy it.
Be wise!
