The Veil

by Steve Countryman
8/03/2014 / Christian Living

The veil is what we struggle with daily. Sometimes it is what we put on and contend with. The veil obstructs our view to the point of distortion. For the veil takes the truth and distort it into a lie. Our vision becomes so distorted that we cant make out what is truth and what isnt. That opens the door to allow the enemy to speak to you so that you will believe his lies as he tells you what is truth and what is not. So the lies help to justify our sinful acts of disobedience.

2 Corinthians 3:12-18 12 Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lords glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Recently I had a cataract removed from my right eye. It had become very bad and because of my poor insurance at the time I couldnt afford to have it removed. It was so bad that I couldnt see my right hand in front of that eye. It was like I was looking through a dark veil and my vision was almost gone in that eye. I felt like a was walking around in a funk, dullness, all the time. As I started writing this I was reminded about my poor vision. How that poor vision affected everything I did everyday. I know that my guardian angel was working overtime to keep me safe. My poor vision caused me to make poor decisions daily. Now if in the natural that can happen, how much more does it happen in our supernatural? How often do we allow the veil of the enemy to interfere and cloud our judgment? What is scary is how many different veils are out there that the Devil uses and we encounter them everywhere we go.

The veil of distraction. Just living in this life will cause you to be distracted with the daily routines. That veil can easily cause you to be caught up in your daily problems and distractions that you dont have time for God anymore. Your thoughts are all about your problems for that is the only thing that this veil allows you to see. The more distracted you become the less time spent with your God. The less time spent with the Father the less effective you are as his child.

The veil of addiction. This veil is similar to the veil of distraction but is more dangerous. Addictions are not limited only to drug, alcohol, tobacco and sex, they also include addictions to possessions, feelings, attention or drama queens, sports, hobbies, clubs, titles or positions, power and authority, greed, adrenalin rushes, control freaks, obsessions, crushes or stalking, collections, hording and other types of addictions I havent mentioned. The veil of addiction drives you. Some will cause you to throw away all that you once cared for or about for a false promise of some self satisfaction or a feeling that you crave. But the flesh is never satisfied! Most veils of addictions cause you to alienate all your love ones and friends so that your only focus and efforts is on trying to satisfy your god of addiction. You are so tied up in your veil of addiction that you cant see its hold over you. Nothing is more important to you than your veil of addiction!

The veil of deception. No one wants to admit that they have been deceived. Thats like admitting that youve been taken. That some one has played you for a fool. That is how this veil works. It lies to you through what it tells you when you look through that veil. It will use some of what you know is the truth and twist it so that you can easily rationalize and justify the sin you are stuck in. Youll never change. Your parents were the same way. Look at your past, you cant escape it. That veil will try to keep in stuck in your sin through the lies it tells you so that your walk with God is now a walk from God.

The veil of unbelief. Notice how most of these veils seem to tie themselves together in a over lapping fashion. This veil will also lie to you. It will take your faith and cause you to cast doubt upon it. You can have faith in God but doubt His willingness to help and bless you. You can have faith in your salvation from God but have unbelief in Gods ability to rescue you. This veil causes your vision to be limited to only seeing what is happening around you in the natural and keeping your vision from Gods supernatural. That limits your faith and will limit what God can do in you, to you, with you, for you and through you.

The veil of religious spirits. This veil is one of self righteousness. It allows you to see yourself as a Super Christian who knows more and shows more to others than what you really are. It promotes religious traditions and rituals of men instead of what the Word has for you in Gods truth. This is the same veil that the religious leaders in the Bible wore. They wanted everyone to think of them as someone special, someone important. Someone who others would come to for advice. This veil allows you to easily see the faults in others so that you can judge them as inferior to yourself. So when people attack your delusions all you have to do is point out the faults of others to make yourself look better than you are. This veil hides the real you behind a veil of false humility, false love, false compassion, false holiness and false righteousness. Speaking Christianese comes packaged with this veil and is easy for you to use when a friend comes to you for prayer for their problem. You reply, God will heal you if it is His will. or God will bring you out of it you when He feels like it.

The veil of denial. This veil is one meant to keep you stuck right where you are. It allows you to find others to blame for your troubles and deflect the blame from you. As long as you continue to blame others, you dont have to fix or do anything that requires you to change what you are doing wrong. It will keep you in a constant state of denial of your own problems that you caused. This way you are not held accountable for anything you do for it is ALWAYS someone elses fault. This veil will also cause you to alienate others as you put the blame on them. Isolating people and God from your life and from the truth behind your problems.

The veil of sin. Living a life behind this veil is to live a lie that states I cant help it. This is how God made me. God knows all about me and my little sins. He doesnt mind. So whats the harm with a little sin now and then as long as no one gets hurt. This veil will always prompt you to move on to bigger and better sins since you know how to justify them anyway.

There are other veils too; the veil of un-forgiveness, the veil of revenge, the veil of complaining/murmuring, the veil of worthlessness/past failures and many more. Most people have a collection of these veils. All of these veils have one thing in common. They are here to destroy you, hurt you, harm you and render you weak and useless as a Christian. They all deal with different forms of lies and deception which are the Devils most powerful weapons.

Gods veil revealed. In the Old Testament the veil in the Temple of the Lord was used as protection. It is what God told the Israelites to use. God did this as a barrier of protection so that the priests would not die for being in Gods presence at the Ark of the Covenant. That is what God provides for you, a veil of protection for His children. For He is the One who delivers you from all of the veils of the enemy. God offers freedom of vision to all those who ask for His deliverance. God WILL set you free today! For you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. Those veils force you to only see what is bad, wrong, rotten and messed up with this world. To make you think that there is no hope for change or rescue. But God brings clarity to your vision. He allows you to see and notice all of the good that is out there and to notice the works of His hands! With those veils removed you now have access to the wisdom and revelation that God has for you. To fulfill the destiny that God has ordained for you!
