LEN'S LINES -- A Little Religion On A Positive Note By Len Granger
The Garden Soils
When we plant a large vegetable garden, year after year, that is very successful; we may think that our knowledge may exceed what the Bible, God's Word tells us. This year, in one of the worst droughts ever recorded in northern California, everyone is looking for ways to conserve water.
Our garden area has excellent top soil but must be worked up before we plant in the spring months. This year instead of working the soil deep as we usually have done, I figured it might take less water if we only disc to the depth of six inches. Many of the neighbor farms have planted nut or fruit trees over recent years, as our soil has a hard pan condition. Trees have a better root system which goes deep beyond the clay layer and the 500 acres in walnut trees next to us is doing fine.
In the Bible, we see where the "Parable Of The Soils" appears in the books of Matthew. Mark and Luke where our Lord Jesus Christ tells us very important information . From Mark, Chapter 4, he tells us how the sower spread the seed. In Verses 5 and 6 we see," And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away"
That is what happened in the much of the garden this year. The soil was not properly prepared causing the roots to not be deep in the soil and the pool of water around each plant just evaporated with the summer heat and the plants died. Areas where the soil was disc deep the vegetable crops are doing much better, even in this drought year.
Our Bible has information, if we just read it, that covers all the trials and tribulations we face in life. The garden this year is a very visible example of what may happen when we go by our own decisions. YES, our life without consulting our gracious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and looking for answers in the Bible, is no life at all.
Trust, we will all be in the church of our choice this Sunday worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
God Bless America
