Are You a Crumb Picker?

by Dot Hannah

Deuteronomy 28:13 "And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail: and thou shalt be above only and not beneath: if thou shalt hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them." KJV

Have you been feeling like a tail lately, that is, a T-A-I-L? if so, you know that being a tail is not pleasant. A tail is in bondage to whatever it is attached to, such as fear or unbelief. It cannot see, cannot lead, and it has no dreams or goals. It is up close and personal with dung on a daily basis.

A head can be endued with power for success, prosperity, and wisdom but not so a tail. A head recognizes himself as God's precious and unique child, able to overcome any obstacle that stands in his path and knows the personal worth he is to God. On the other hand, a tail sees himself as having no talent, skill or intelligence. A head uses its brains, a tail doesn't believe it has any. Why would anyone settle for being a tail?

A tail is beneath the table eating crumbs, a crumb picker. The Father is not a respecter of persons and has a lavish feast prepared, but the tail refuses to believe he is free to partake. He doesn't see that he has any purpose in God's plans, because of unbelief. He is content to just get by, too afraid to face his opponent with God's Word and fight for what is rightfully his. He settles for the ordinary and misses great opportunities on a regular basis. He plays it safe, avoids risks at all cost and never ventures out of his comfort zone. He lives in a self imposed prison. He is as close to God as he chooses too, and doesn't understand that life's greatest privilege is to trust Him.

In order for a tail to become a head, he must know the power he possesses, believe what he knows, learn how to appropriate courage in everyday life and expect. No one can do it for him. When he believes that God has a specific plan and purpose for him, the truth literally transforms him. He will then make the effort each and every day to fulfill his purpose in God, not merely exist. He will be fully alive, not swatting flies. God specializes in fresh starts.
