The Biblical Principles for Living

by Jennifer Champion
9/10/2014 / Christian Living

Life is so hard sometimes and being a Christian doesn't mean that life's problems will go away. We can rest assured though that if we apply the six principles of living found in 1 Chronicles 28:9-10 to our life that our problems will be dealt with easier.

Principle #1 Develop a personal relationship with God.

We must realize that God wants a relationship with us. We should want a relationship with him as well. It is vital that we set aside time every day to pray and read our bible. There is nothing else more important than taking the time to listen for God and getting the direction we need in life. In every important decision to be made, first seek God.

Principle #2 Learn God's Commands

If we are doing Principle #1, then #2 should come quite easily. By reading our bible every day and investing the quality time to learn and comprehend what it says, we can be confident in the word of God. It is imperative that we take to heart what God expects of us so that we can live it in our daily walk. Our troubles are often brought on by our own selfish desires so the next time there is a problem we need to look back and check ourselves. Did we follow God's commands?

Principle #3 Worship God Honestly and Wholeheartedly

Again, if we are doing #1, developing a personal relationship with God and #2, learning his commands, then #3 should come naturally. This isn't the worship you do in church each Sunday morning when you sing a few songs and listen to the preacher bring the message. Church is a must in having a relationship with our Lord but we must also look at how we worship him when we are alone. When we are alone and have this time to ourselves with God are we just bringing him our problems or are we taking that precious moment we are privileged to even have to thank him for all he does for us?

Principle #4 Be a willing Servant

Principle #1 - #3 are the platforms for which we can become a dutiful but willing servant. It's not meant to say that we should take on every opportunity to serve God because then we will become overworked and it will no longer have the same meaning for us nor will it be honoring God. We must be willing to listen to God's direction and seek him. He will guide us exactly where he wants us to be. We just have to be willing to go with joy. When we serve others and the Lord, our problems seem so much less than what they really are and in turn, we become more grateful servants.

Principle #5 Be Faithful.

Our faith has to be strong, especially when there are problems in our life. We have to trust that God has only our best interests in mind and that he will never leave us. In the midst of life's trials and conflicts, we need to turn to God and thank him first for what we are going through and have faith that he will see us through it.

Principle #6 Do not become discouraged.

God knows our hearts. He knows when we are putting up a front. We must lay it all on the table before God and be honest with him. Even if we are doing our best to obey principle #5 by being faithful, this world we live in can be so discouraging. Others will not understand our relationship with God and our attitude about our problems and therefor will do their best to put a negative light on the situation. Whenever we find ourselves becoming discouraged with life's problems, we should retreat back to principle #1 and seek that relationship with God. He will never discourage.
