Man Fulfills Dream of Becoming Professional Baseball Player

David was thrilled with the inaugural season of a new pro baseball league.

One of the league's teams played its home games in David's home town. David faithfully attended all those games. A devout Christian, he took a couple of youngsters from a local orphanage to the games. Between innings, David shared with his guests the message of the Good News of the Lord Jesus.

God was pleased that David continually shared his faith. "You are doing a great job of telling the youngsters about me, so I have another assignment for you." said the Lord.

"But, Lord," David objected, "I'm content to continue taking the kids to the games and sharing my faith with them."

"I know you are, David. I also know I can always count on you to do any job I give you."

"What do you want me to do, Sir?," asked David.

"You're dream of becoming a professional baseball player is going to become reality," said the Lord. I have given your name to the manager and instructed him to call you and let you try out for the team. You are going to be a pinch hitter and relief pitcher."

"What about the kids?," asked David.

"I did not forget about the kids. I've spoken to Doug, your younger brother. Once you've made the team, Doug will be escorting the youngsters to the games."

The following afternoon, David's cell phone rang. "Hello, David," said the caller. "My name is Dale. I'm the manager of the local pro baseball team. While I was praying, the Lord told me to call you and invite you to try out for the team. Can you be at the stadium tomorrow at 3 p.m. for the tryout?

"Yippee!," shouted David. "I'll be there!"

Dale greeted David at the stadium. "Our number one southpaw starting pitcher, Drake, will throw a few fast balls and curves to you, so give it your best shot."

David proceeded to crush every pitch into the outfield seats. "Wow!," Drake exclaimed. "You're terrific!"

"God gave me the ability, so He gets all the glory," said David.

David showed his pitching ability by facing Drew, the team's most feared hitter. A dozen pitches later, Drew was exhausted from swinging and missing.

"We want you on the team," said Dale. "Now we just need to come to terms contract terms."

"Whatever you offer is fine."

"You will be our pinch hitter and ninth inning closer. You'll be paid one million dollars for each inning you pitch and for every home run you hit."

"Thanks," said David. "I plan to live on 10 percent of my income and give the rest to God. Since He is giving me the talent and the opportunity, He should get the biggest part of my paycheck!"
