Such A Man Like Me

by Olawale Ogunsola
10/21/2014 / Christian Living

It was on September 16, 2014 that I met a young girl in her early teens who wanted Jesus Christ to put an end to a nagging problem she had. She disclosed,
"Should a person like me continue to bed-wet? I want Jesus Christ to help me to put an end to it."

She showed a strong remorse.

When I met her father to confirm whether or not he was aware of the problem, he added,
"Yes! She wept uncontrollably on the day she discussed it with you. Every effort to console her was rebuffed. When I called her privately, she disclosed that she had just realised it was a very serious problem."

The sister's statement reminded me of a similar statement from Nehemiah when enemies were pursuing him and and his people.
He said,
"Should a man like me flee? And could one such as I go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in." (Nehemiah 6:11 New American Standard Bible)

Nehemiah also was aware that "Someone in my position" should not do something bad. In his case, he should not run from danger. He was not ready to lower his rank by fear.

The young girl knew these things about herself and position:

1. Her age was above that which should allow bed - wetting.

2. She loves the Word of God very much and eagerly stands in the congregation of saints to read it.

3. She is a choir member in the church where she fellowships. She is a potential Choir Leader.

4. She registers her presence regularly and punctually in every fellowship of children of God.

This is her "position" that turns bed-bwetting into a plague in her life. Who will blame a six-month-old girl for the same act? Her age accommodates it; but a girl of more than 12-years, it is degrading.

Until that day, she did not care about it until the Holy Spirit opened her eyes to put it in its proper perspective; then she craved a solution.

It came.

As pointed out earlier, Nehemiah, the Governor over his people knew

his enemies who were same to his people(Nehemiah 6:11);

his assignments, verse 1;

how to perceive dangers that enemies planned and with wisdom avoided them, verse 2;

how to exalt his work more than any meeting with enemies;

an inventor of evils' Nehemiah 6: 5-6;

and understood all the wiles of the enemies verse 9;

the efficacy of prayer, verse 9;

every secret informer of the enemies, verse 10;

his position and was not ready to lower it to ridicule himself. He was ready to take every reasonable risk;

when a false prophecy proceeds from anyone, verse12.

Now, do you know your position? Do you know what befits it? Are you aware of those things that can ridicule it in, thoughts, words and deeds?

In your position, do you ask, "Should a person like me say or do this thing?"

No matter how you see it, you are in a position as a father, mother, child, employee/employer, friend, leader, and so on. You must not fear to do what is right, no matter the circumstances. Help will come for you to act right the name of Jesus.

Henceforth, before you take any step, ask yourself, "Should a person like me...?"
