Husband Makes Up for Forgotten Valentine's Day Card

by Greg Miller

Loren was a bit depressed, because he had forgotten to buy a Valentine's Day card for Lorraine, his wife of 22 years.

A forgiving person, Lorraine said, "That's OK, Loren. We're together, and we love each other. That's all that matters."

"Very true," Loren said with a slight grin. "However, I do like to mark these special occasions with a card."

Loren was a retired salesman, while Lorraine was still employed as a full-time office worker. Loren filled his hours with a variety of tasks. Before he did anything else, however, Loren began his day by reading his Bible and praying to the heavenly father. Each day's Scripture reading included Rev. 1:1-3, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand." The daily reading also included Rev. 22:6-7, "And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done. Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book."

Loren also enjoyed reading short stories and poetry. He told Lorraine, "Writing is a doorway to the soul and a window to God's love."

On Feb. 15, Loren got an idea. He thought, "Valentine's Day is over, but I can still write a Valentine's Day card."

By the end of the day, Loren's project was completed. Patting himself on the back, Loren said, "Good job, My Boy!, Good job! Lorraine's gonna love it!"

Loren also prepared a delicious dinner for Lorraine. As was his custom, Loren met Lorraine with a big hug and kiss at the door. Lorraine walked into the kitchen to prepare dinner. She was surprised when she saw the romantic candlelit dinner Loren had prepared.

"Loren feigned a frown. "Sorry I forgot to get a card for you before Valentine's Day," he said. "I hope this makes it up to you."

"It's perfect," Lorraine chuckled. "But didn't you do this last night?"

"But I forgot the card," Loren said. "I just wanted to make it up to you."

"Thanks, Honey," said Lorraine. "You can do this every evening if you wish."
