MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

by ROBIN BOSCH

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:(Rom 5:12 KJV)

"God our loving heavenly Father saw our deadly plight and predicament, and implemented extreme measures to organize a rescue mission on planet earth. God the Father knew that there was no one in heaven or earth or under the earth that could accomplish the task of reinstating man to his former glory and standing with God. (Rev 5:9 KJV)

(Jhn 3:16 KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I admit that I don't always fully comprehend the enormity of what Christ did for me. My conceptual grasping of the facts are limited to a large extent by my shallow understanding and comprehension of the price He was willing to pay for me.

It is a true saying, that we can't be saved from something if we don't realize we need saving.

I know it took me a while to realize how hopeless I was, being inclined to wallow in despair as to the meaning of life, trying hard to live life in my own strength. Eventually realizing my very best efforts were not good enough. I did not fully appreciate the full extent of my position and the full implications of my spiritual predicament.

When I did get a glimpse of my real position, that's when I understood Grace: the unmerited, undeserved love and favor of God. (Col.1:16)

I am still guilty to some extent of taking for granted the sacrifice that Jesus made for me. I believe Grace is progressively revealed to us as we experience life on a day to day basis. (Eph.2:7)
I know I need to meditate even more on the deep truths encapsulated in the Cross, so that my mind can be renewed by the Holy Spirit. (Rom 12:1-3)

Our heavenly Father knew that there was no other way to gain back the barren territory of man's darkened heart (Rom. 1:21) The stakes were high and man's eternal future was on the line. Man's ultimate eternal condemnation was the alternative to the failure of Christ's rescue mission.

BUT,
God the Son, Jesus Christ was willing to leave the presence, grandeur and perfect atmosphere of heaven and His Father's side, to do whatever it took to redeem mankind, and indeed the whole of creation (Dan 7:13)(Rev.4:13)

Last year I heard preacher paint a picture of Christ's death on the Cross. He movingly under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, portrayed Jesus at the crucifixion, quoting Isaiah 52:14 " As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:"

This portrayal had such an impact on me that I was astounded and moved to share this with you. I quote verbatim, some emphasis added.

"If you can get a picture of the price Jesus paid for your sins you will fall head over hills in love with Him. When you ask people what Jesus did, they say; well, He died on the cross so that we may go to heaven. They say it so glibly that it doesn't really mean anything. It has become so religious. It doesn't have anything in it because it has become religious rhetoric.

What man did was a HUGE violation and the debt kept accumulating. So God gave up His only Son, His only Son whom He loved. The Bible says, He sent Him here as the champion. Now watch this; 'He (Jesus) never sinned'.( 2Co 5:21) For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." Not one sin, ladies and gentlemen. NEVER! He qualified to pay the debt. This holy, spotless, Lamb, was betrayed with a kiss (Judas). Talk about hurtful?
Scripture says, "Whoever I kiss you must arrest" (Matt.26:45)

And they arrested Him; put him in shackles and chains. When they arrested Him and He wanted to say something, they punched Him. Now if you get punched, your face will swell.

Then they spat on Him.

They disrespected Him.

Demons possessed these men to completely tear Him to pieces. He was punched so many times that He was beyond recognition. He was stripped of His clothing. He didn't have a little diaper or cloth on, (as we see pictures portraying, No!) He was naked. This was about humiliation. Not the little cloth you see at plays. He was naked.
When they reached back to release the cat of nine tails, it wrapped around His body again and again. It went in like a knife.

Now it is in Him, so when it is pulled off, His flesh comes out with it. Now His bones are exposed. His body is being turned inside out. His body was reduced to something similar to or like raw hamburger meat.

His body turned inside out, His face swollen, beyond recognition.
He was despised, rejected of men. He had no form. (Is.53:3)
You didn't see Him and say. 'That was God.' You saw it and said,
"OH my God! what have they done to this man?"

Everything he did, He did so that you and I would not have to go through, because the penalty for sin is what he was going through.

Someone said to Jesus, why don't you stay down and play like you are dead? He couldn't do that.
He couldn't afford to do that, because of you and me.

So he had to stand up each time, after each piece of His body was pulled out, because He had to suffer the FULL punishment for sin, so that there will be nothing left for you to suffer for. He had to take it all. He had to take every bit of it.

Every bit was for YOU.

Every stripe was for YOU.

Every punch was for YOU.

You know what freaks me out? That I know I deserve hell. I know that I have done nothing righteous."(CD)

End of quote, (verses and some emphasis added by me)
(Read also Isaiah Chapter 52 and 53)

"For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2Co 5:21 KJV)

The question now is, "how can I show Jesus my love and appreciation for the enormous price he paid to save me?"

"How can I demonstrate to Him that I am grateful for all He was willing to endure on the Cross?"

The answer is not," I will work for you, I will tithe my money, I'll give to the poor, and I'll read my Bible five times a day, I'll pray three times a day. I'll be good from now on etc. etc. etc."

These things we certainly can do, but they are not the central and core requirement.

Jesus wants us simply to:

TRUST HIM COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY.

TRUST HIS FINSHED WORK ON THE CROSS.

And

BELIEVE AND ACCEPT HIS SACRIFICE.

This trust and surrender pleases Him, because it shows Him that I am willing to totally believe Him and His abundant provision for now and eternity.

For:
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Act 4:12 KJV)

We disrespect Him if we try and do what He has already done.

We dishonor Him if we refuse His precious gift of Grace.

BUT The Good News is:
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:" (Eph.2:8)

Let us now worship Jesus.(John 1:29)
"Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing." (Rev 5:12 KJV)

THE BATTLE IS OVER,

IT IS FINISHED.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

I have been a believer in Christ for many years. It has only been in the last three or four years that I have received greater insight into the Grace of God. This has injected me with energy to tell others about the blessed "rest" we have in Christ. Grace is not a theology but is a Person-- Jesus.
