Living for Today

by Jennifer Champion
4/08/2015 / Christian Living

All bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ. (Ephesians 4:31-32HCSB)

Yesterday is gone. It may have been a bad day; it may have even been the worst day of your entire life. Tomorrow is not here yet and who knows what it holds? Today is here though. What will you do with it?

Today is the day to start over maybe. It is the perfect opportunity to be nicer than you were yesterday. It's the ideal day to play with your kids and be their idea of the best mom or dad in the world. It is the right time to call that person you wronged and say, "I'm sorry." Even better, it's the best day to call that person that wronged you and tell them, "I forgive you." Today is a day where you can ponder on that person you lost and instead of mourning, thank God that you had them in your life as long as you did. It is the time to put down your phone and back away from the computer; it's time to have that face to face conversation you have been yearning for with someone you care about. It is time to walk up to your spouse and give them a long hug and look them in the eyes and tell them, "I Love you."

What a day today would be if you knocked that dust off your guitar and played it or sketched a picture of something you see. Today is a day for pulling out old photos and reminiscing with a friend or family member. If your parents are alive, then today would be the most awesome day to call them and tell them, "Thanks for loving me." If your children are grown with kids of their own, today is the day to call them and say, "I am so proud of the parent you have become." Today is the day to put down that bad habit that gnaws at you and pick up a new one that is better for you. Today can be the day you start reading a book or start writing one yourself.

Today is a day of renewal. Maybe you are tired of life just passing you by or maybe you are in a situation that seems hopeless. Maybe every day you feel lost, sad, or scared. Today is the perfect day to turn it all over to the Lord. Today could be the day that you give it all up to Him and trust that He will never forsake you because you do not know what will come tomorrow.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that today be a fresh start in my life. Give me the courage and faith to trust in you and all the goodness you have to offer. Amen.
