Seeing is Believing?

by Jennifer Champion
4/10/2015 / Devotionals

Jesus said, "Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Those who believe without seeing are blessed." (John 20:29 HCSB)

Why do I believe there is a God that created everything? Why do I believe that this one and only God sent his son to earth as a child to grow up and die for my sins? Why do I believe this Jesus of Nazareth came back from the dead and then ascended into heaven? Why do I believe that Jesus will come back one day? Why do I believe in heaven, hell, and the bible?

How can you believe in a God that claims to be good but allows children to die from cancer? How can you believe in a God that lets people every day die from starvation? How can you believe in a God that is supposed to be all powerful yet he does nothing to stop what is going on in our world? How can you believe in a book that is old and written by men yet you claim it is the "Word of God?" How can you believe that there is a heaven and a hell and the only people that will be in heaven are others like you that believe and even though a person may be good but doesn't believe will go to hell? How can you believe in a supernatural being when every day science proves you wrong?

As a Christian, I have often asked myself these same questions. These questions are not new and I shudder to think that if God never sent his son to die for us what our lives would like today. I am asked frequently these types of questions by non-believers. My answer is sometimes revealed when I ask God to please show me. For others, I simply tell them, "I don't know." I am not God so I do not have an answer to every question. I do believe that everything God allows to happen works out for good in the end.

A Prayer:

God, I do not know why bad things happen but I thank you for seeing me through it all. I do not fully understand your workings in my life or in the lives of others. I do trust in you though and know that I will one day be with you in heaven and live an eternal life free from the pains, heartaches, and sins of this world. Amen.
